Pep would be a really good get. He was really important to Andrew Luck and Justin Herbert's growth.

Ok so I didn’t know that a reporter spread the wrong news about Canada being offered the OC job.

Now hire Pep as QB coach. It’s a lateral move but so was the TE coach they just hired from SD.

The Chargers will likely block though. Keep in mind the new rule allocates that a candidate can be blocked from going to another team if that candidate is going to have the same Coaching Position. The rule does not apply if that candidate becomes something greater than his current position, such as an Offensive Coordinator.

I really hope this works out as I am not sure if Canada will have full control over Offensive Play Calling. If not, expect more of the same of what was seen in 2020.

They didn’t block the TE coach. Risky move blocking a person that wants to move on, why would you want a disgruntled employee.

It's also much easier to get a job in media in those small markets, and the good ones move on to the big cities.

Remember, this is the Spanos family. Our fellow member @santeesteel can tell you how dysfunctional that ownership is. Possibly even worse than Woody Johnson of the New York Jets!

Not saying you are incorrect but remember, it is the Owner that sadly gets the final say in these matters unfortunately.... well.. usually.

We’ll see. We don’t even know if Canada has the job yet, lot of jumping the gun with these reports that keep coming out.

Sadly, whomever the OC turns out to be will be handcuffed their first year if Ben comes back.

I’m intrigued by Canada as OC. Would be happy with Pep as well. Don’t think either will be able to do what they want if Ben plays.

I'm intrigued as well but I worry if what worked so well for him in college would translate well.

    True.

That said, to hire someone who is not within the organization would be even better for me as that would give the team new ideas and a chance to take a step out of their comfort zone a bit. The Tight Ends Coach we just hired was just the start but I would have liked it to continue with Pep.

Why do we want Canada instead of a proven OC?... I dont know much abt any of the canidates , so why not go with a proven OC ..Some say they like the offense he ran in college, while others say college offenses dont wrk in the NFL

All the “proven” OC’s have all been fired at one point or another. NFL is a carousel of coaches. I like the idea of thinking outside the box.

His isn’t really a gimmick offense like the wildcat or something, it just involves a lot of motion sets, things that keep the defense guessing and off balance. Plus jet sweeps and things like that. They were doing it early last season and was working, then they went away from it and became a predictable short passing attack with no down field shots (not successfully anyway). And that’s just what we know of from what they did last year, I’m sure there is much more he’d like to infuse into an offense.

NFL resembles college a lot more than it used too, lot of what you see now is being done at the college level.

Sounding like Canada is a done deal and they will be hiring a QBC per a plethora of Pittsburgh media on Twitter
