    NASA reports later:
Felix Baumgartner apparently reached a top speed of Mach 1.24 during his freefall today....833 miles per hour.

    This is for real???!!!
If I wouldn`t have seen a little blurb about it on Fox news(my homepage)before I came here, I would think this was some sort of internet hoax, or one of those cases where you can`t believe everything you see on the web...
I will have to check this out a little more.
If it is real... HOLY CRAP!!!
    WOW!!!
    That`s just crazy!...
Also, how much did RedBull have to spend, to pull this off????
I`m curious how he wound up in a little capsule that looked like it was in "low-level" orbit, before he jumped?
That sort of thing can`t come cheap, and would have to have a LOT of logistical support behind it...
Given the slogan... "Red Bull gives you wings"... Maybe they did invest in all that.. I just hadn`t heard about it before today.
    Looked legit.
That is NUTS, if it wasn`t just a trick... If it was, It probably wouldn`t have been one of the sidebar stories on my Fox News page, when I first got online...
    Wow.... Just WOW....
Edit... The part I was wondering about, was... How did he not burn up like a meteorite, encountering the friction from the air, while going at over the speed of sound????
They had to put special tiles on our shuttles, to keep them from being burned up, on re-entry, but this dude can just free-fall thru the atmosphere???
    WOW!

Truly incredible that a human being can look down on the atmosphere, break the sound barrier, and glide safely to the ground a few minutes later while the rest of the world watches. Good question Bleed- gotta wonder how much that project cost Red Bull. Ground control alone can't be cheap.

Sweet! Lol! That guy just THINKS he can perform a leap of faith! Maybe this will give Ubi the idea to make an Assassin's Creed in space!

Hey Ray have you ever seen the Mega64 video of Assassin's Creed. It's HILARIOUS!!! I don't know if you know about them but I used to watch them ALL THE TIME. I would get dvd's of all their stuff with my subscription to EGM. Also check out "Supersonic Electronic" just for something so ridiculously funny you will cry laughing! Mega64 are these guys that act out video games in real life IN PUBLIC! Oh man they are AWESOME! If you've ever wondered what Mario 3 would look like in real life Mega64 brings that to fruition brilliantly!

Not to derail the thread, but saw it a long time ago. Was mildly amusing, but there's better spoofs out there.

My favorite Mega64 is probably the Resident Evil merchant one. If you can remember where you saw the good AC spoof I would LOVE to see it. Oh I remember the Final Fantasy 12 spoof was awesome where the guy was walking around telling everyone not to believe King Ondor's lies. I cracked up on that one.

Wow... I guess I am SOOOO out of the loop....
But after seeing this jump plastered all over every news outlet on the planet, I will conclude it was real... :hehehe:
Anyhow... thought it was interesting, that he actually jumped from a BALLOON!!! (Like a 5story "ultra-thin", helium type balloon, if I remember what I read right)...
That would cut down on the price tag I was thinking of, but still wouldn`t be cheap...
Probably worth every penny, considering EVERYONE , EVERYWHERE, Is talking about it today...
And I am telling them... I heard about it on the STEELER`S FAN`S message board first! LOL!!! :roflmao: :yeehaw:
