i figured if the Steelers ever had to go across seas to play a game it would be in Ireland.

Art Rooney is on NFL Network right now, and he was just saying that there was a certain family member that was pushing heavily for Ireland, but they're happy to play in London, and look forward to playing in other international venues in the future to help expand the fanbase.

Looks like it's the first game, not the second. September 29th, 2013. Vikings host.

Ugggh - it's just one bad new story after another. First - a traitor jumps ship and buys the Clowns. Now - they have to play in LONDON?? Well - I guess it will squelch all doubt that Steeler Nation is more like Steeler WORLD! Hopefully the stadium will be filled with Terrible Towels waving under the Union Jack.

I am actually fairly shocked that they did not make us give up a home game. Question becomes, will those in the states still be able to watch live? Or wait for replay? How are they doing it this yr?

I'm glad for my fellow fans and friends on here but I sure do hate the idea of us going over there. It will still be a huge homefield advantage but we can't play good on the road in THIS country. Also that's gonna be a strain on us I think pretty bad. I REALLY hope they have that field in good shape. I think in the last few years the field has been pretty crappy.

6pm UK time, 1pm in Pittsburgh, might be a vikes 'home' game but guaranteed to be more Steeler fans in the 80,000 crowd.

So, may be a little premature, but does anyone know how tickets to such a game will work? I see online something about registering at nfluk.com?

They may not be able to do that...some stadiums/cities/etc and teams have contracts where they must play so many home games and such. Not sure if the NFL can overrule this or what exactly...but I read that somewhere and I THINK the Steelers are one of those teams...but i could be wrong.

This is the worst news of the season for me. I don't care that they are playing a game in London but who they are playing. I was pumped when they were coming to Minnesota because I that is the only time I can realistically get to see them live. Took my Dad to his first game in 05 when Steeler Nation took over the Metrodome. THis time I was planning on taking the wife and my kids, my supervisor even said his family has season tickets to the Vikings and they only really use them for division games and I was welcome to them for this game except now thanks to the NFL that isn't happening. Have to wait another 5-10 years till the NFC north comes back around and they have the Vikings on the road. Sad day in this Steeler fan's household.

Obviously I don't know your financial situation but you can go to Pittsburgh for pretty cheap if you get your tix from Craigslist. There are also some very reasonable hotels there. I know it's tough times and certainly not in everyone's budget but I was just thinking that maybe you thought it was kinda outrageous to go there. A lot of times when I tell people how much they can go to a game for they look at me like I'm crazy. It really makes me feel bad to think that I have fellow fans that can't afford to go see the team and makes me wish I could do something to help. For me to go I just save up for a few months and keep an eye on tickets. But I've never had to pay for a family to go and I know that would be a really big deal. It's sad how much tickets cost. I saw a post a month or so ago that said ticket prices since the 70s have gone up 700%! That's RIDICULOUS!

I have friends that live in Pitt and most of my parents families live just north of there near Clarion and Tionesta so lodging isn't a big issue it is however the planning of what would be a involved cross country trip with two children(very possibly a third on the way very soon) and my wife is daunting. My wife grew up here in Minnesota so when I talk about Pittsburgh and going home to my grandpa place in Marienville and showing her all the places that mean alot to me she wants to see it all. So it isn't just going to Pittsburgh and see the Steelers at home which would be a dream come true. It is seeing the new Pens arena, its showing her and the kids the Incline, its going to Hersey and Kennywood and Gettysburg, It is showing her Drake's Well and going up to Erie and why my family makes jokes about PennDot and potholes. It is trying to cram a lifetime into a short visit but we will make it someday soon. I have to introduce my kids to their extended family and by that I mean the rest of Steeler Nation.
