I don't think they can block interviews, which is new to this offseason/playoffs.

God, I am going to have to play the idiot here, but what does Matt Canada have to do with workplace diversity?

And, Why don't they have the 2 guys from Philadelphia? Pederson and Staley?

I do not think the Canada interview would fit into the diversity rule as much as the ability for an individual to move forward for an enhanced career opportunity. In the past (IDK if a rule, written individual contracts, or just 'professional courtesy') it was common to allow the individual to be interviewed for a position that would be considered a professional promotion. There may have been some denied, but in the long term that is really setting up that organization coaching hell. Why would a good coach want to stay/sign with a team if they knew they would not be able to pursue enhanced opportunities in the future.

True, but I’m sure Canada told the Steelers he was interviewing in Mia and they told him “wish you luck” instead of “don’t rush off, we’ll have an opening you might be interested in”. MSG: you’re not in our plans.

Brian Schottenheimer is my top candidate.

He's runs a digit, Coryell system but doesn't seem to be beholden to it. His Seattle offenses had a lot multiple looks, personnel groupings, etc. Claypool would thrive in it, IMO.

Russell Wilson seemed to love the guy. Reading around some of the Seahawks sites, a lot of folks felt he was scapegoated by Pete Carroll.

I would be okay with either of those guys. Tomlin should get on the ball and start interviewing guys. With all the HC changes, new guys are going to start building their staffs. If the Steelers wait to long they are going to be scraping the bottom of the barrel.

Bottom line, let’s get started. Bring in some people for interviews. Or are they just going to hand it over to Canada? Whoever it is, I just hope they have real control over the offense.

Whichever candidate is the cheapest. And if Ben comes back it's a moot point.

Byron is working with Brady so it's making his resume look way better. No, just no.

I wonder how much say Tomlin has in the coaching choices/changes.

Why wouldn’t it be his decision? With input from the organization of course

That’s what I’m getting at.... I think we all want an OC that will actually control the offense, not a puppet for Ben to manipulate. I’m hoping Ben has been properly humbled, by this most recent playoff exit, and would be more open to taking direction.

I don't know. I assume he's part of the process, but I wonder how much of a part.
Tomlin says things like "He's open to change", not "I will be making changes", like it's not in his control.
Was it Tomlin who decided not to renew the contracts of Fichtner, Sarrett and Bradley...

That’s the media side of Tomlin we see, because that’s what he gives us. Tomlin is very calculating. If the coordinator hired isn’t who he wants, he could negotiate his own way out and go to another team, make more money, and have more power.

More open is hard for a guy who likes to navigate on the fly. Now that Canada has the job the question is can Ben operate his system, will he humble himself and really try to work in that system?

Fingers crossed, Ben will do what’s necessary to develop this offense. I hope Canada is the right choice.

Ben can’t really run Canada’s system. I’m wondering if we are entering the Mason era or maybe draft one.
