I'm blocked by these losers so I couldn't post the original but if this is true, the Steelers need to throw the damn house at the Texans to get him. He just signed a mega-deal but he's still worth any investment. Pair him with Johnson, Claypool, and Washington and you'll see beautiful things.

    Thoughts?

    Not.

    Enough.

    Money.

As much as I would want DeShaun, the Salary Cap is not there. Nevermind that, the Texans would have to eat $67 Million in dead cap per OverTheCap in 2021.

He is a talented QB, but check out his contract. Next year isn't bad, but he's got a massive cap hit in 22 ($40.4 M) and 23 ($42.2M). It's about as bad as Ben's cap hit in 21 ($41.25M)

What's interesting is that Watson's contract structure makes something like that possible. Most of his guaranteed money is in guaranteed salary, with the bulk of it in 2022 and 2023, not 2021. His cap hit for his new team would only be around $10 million in 2021, but then jumps to $40 million in 2022. The Texans would not have their cap crushed by dead money either in the event of a trade. The new team would take on the guaranteed salary obligation and have significant dead cap potential for 2021 and 2022 if he didn't pan out (which would obviously only be due to career ending injury since he's a stud).

Not true. If he's cut, yes. If he's traded, no. The new team would take on those guarantees because they are mostly salary guarantees, not significant ing bonuses already paid.

If Ben retires at the end of the season I’d give the Texans anything they want within reason. Would two firsts and three seconds do it? You could easily burn that kind of draft capital trying to find your next guy and end up with nothing but a wasted decade.

Watson is a top 5 QB, as long as you can draft reasonably well and keep putting some pieces around him you’ll be competitive.

@Steel_Elvis@Steel_Elvis is right, the way his contract is done it’s manageable if Ben is off the books.

Why the Texans would trade him is the thing? He is the one positive thing that franchise has left. The fans would set the building on fire if the Texans trade him away, and rightfully so. Their big issue is that they have no draft capital left after O’Briens insane wheeling and dealing, I dont see this as the way to solve it however. That said, if the player is unhappy and wants to go there is usually only one way it ends.

Yea but he's 10+ years younger than Ben so If they had the money the cap hit would be worth it in my opinion

Bill o'Brien should never be allowed to work in football again for what he did to that franchise.. trading away the future in draft picks along with Hopkins and making your franchise QBs wanting out.. bannable offenses

If it could be done I'd be all for it. With our weapons at WR and our D we would be a few pieces away (OL,RB) from being the best roster in the league. I would not do it unless you get rid of Randy as well, talk about O'Brian wasting his time Randy would kill his career.

I would definitely trade for Watson. Not sure what it would take, but man that would be amazing.

Watson would make us a contender immediately if Ben left.

If he is available the Steelers should go all in to try and get him. Steelers would continue to be Super Bowl contenders for the next decade.

Texans would be stupid to trade Watson. Make a good HC hire and Watson might want to stay in Hou.

Just because i have way to much time on my hands I clicked on the 'Trade preJune 1" function and that says they eat 21.6 million if they make the trade, still a lot to eat as they are 17 mill over at this point. Besides the numbers though, what those wanting a trade like this do not understand is the ream getting him will likely end up just like Houston. You lose all of that top draft capitol for 2 years, and literally have no money to resign your own talent.

Certainly a fair point. I’d do it for a genuine franchise QB only.

What I don’t understand is teams doing it for other positions such as Edge or Tackle. You’ve got to get those guys in the draft yourself.

My offer would be a 1 and a 2 Mason and Dobbs and 1 hell of a future HC in RF this would be a great deal...I will leak it to the Texans now...

    1. Trade whatever it takes for Watson
    2. Convert Big Ben to foolback
    3. Trade Rudolph and Dobbs for Deandre Hoskins

I’m not so sure. We’re looking at needing to rebuild through the draft. We have weapons but also serious o-line issues. I think the capital needed would be too high.

But then I also thought Duce Staley was a great pick up at the time, so...

Even if you could Trade Ben, Randy, Ebron, and McFarland for him, I’m not sure they could afford him next year.
