Some random thoughts after the loss @TEN

-Something's wrong with our conditioning program: Too many injuries.
-Two key plays: blocked punt, TENN interception. Turning points that gave them 7 points the first one, and took at least 3 from us the second one
-Is there anyone on D who can cover a TE?
-Why were we playing man cover during the last drive, when trying to hold a tie?
-Timmons keeps improving his role on D. Foote has played at a high level too.
-Clark: outstanding, but clearly misses Troy out there (or at least a reliable SS!)
-Rainey: great return guy. Needs to get involved more in the game
-Our RB corps have pretty good individual skills... is our OL the one to blame for our innefective running game?
-Are we relying too much on bubble screens? Would like to see the stat: Bubble screens thrown, total yards from them
-Creating one turnover is not a way to contribute in order to get a W
-Our O keeps getting 3 points on drives that should have meant 7. Look at them, most have stalled because of mental mistakes (penalties, dropped passes)
-Where was our pressure the last 3 TENN drives?
-We had a chance to put the game away at least 3 times: couple of dropped ints, holding call on Ike Taylor on 3rd down
-I've seen this movie: I remember one year when Cowher benched Ike, because he was playing exactly like this year: getting picked, commiting pelnalties (holdings and interference) very often. Ike seems to be our weakest link right now on D. How much is just his fault, how much the absence of quality pressure?
-Suisham is not a long distance kicker. That 52 yarder was an exception. Can't rely on this guy for long kicks and plan our drives hoping he makes those 50+ FGs
-Our offense has been playing pretty good, but hasn't been able to close a game on the 4th quarter, or putting it away earlier. I'd look at our first down calls -too many run plays- and the sets we are using on 2nd down with 2 TE or 2 RBs (while 2nd & more than 7 should be = Wallace, Brown, Sanders, Miller, Rainey / Redman, don't run the ball, this is a passing situation!)
-Coach T was overconfident on Suisham. Hope this gives Coach T a parameter of when to rely on our K and when not
-We need to get creative on D. Troy not getting back anytime soon is a possible scenario

For sure, I'm missing a bunch of things. What are yours?

I think the pressuer thing is due to bad secondary play, plain and simple. it seems like we can't bring any LBers because if they aren't in coverage we get burned underneath. The same thing happens when we get to the QB, it looks as if the CB gets beat on the first juke and a reciever ends up wide open. Running game isn't going to happen as long as this oline is playing, Foster whiffed on a block during a drive in which we had 3 yard to go for a first and mendenhall barely had it and got smoked making for a 3rd and long and then the dropped pass by brown and it turned into a punt. The blocked punt was poor coaching and taking things for granted plus Ryan Mundy is bad, just that simple. Ziggy Hood has no business as a starting DL, he can't get penetration and has no clue how to fill the gap and stop runs, in the past no matter how bad the secondary was we always knew we could stop the run but not any more. K. Lewis is bad, Ike couldn't understand why no teams threw money at him when he was a FA, maybe he should go back and look at the last 4 games of last season and then watch this season on film and he may realize he isn't that good. I know it is early but I believe they need to put the young guys in on D and let them go, it couldn't get any worse, Heyward for Hood, McLendon for Hampton, and somebody for Keisel and if there is any able bodied CB on the bench, try them, it can't be worse that what we have put on the field so far.

    So far, his career accuracy:
    80.4% 30-39yds
    74.6% 40-49 yds
    38.5% 50+ yds

Last year, he had a 54.5% from 40-49 yds and 75% from 30-39yds.

I'm not harsh! He's not reliable enough to think that a game winning drive that stalls at the opponent 20's or 30's means a game winning FG.

I didn't want to start a new thread just to say this so I decided to throw it in the latest one. The fact of he matter is we are not a smart team ,from top to bottom. This is why we struggle with our execution every week ,poor clock management, stupid and untimely penalties etc.......... I could list plenty more examples but I think you get the point and I'm sure most would agree, sad but true.
