He is a great pass defender and a average tackler at best..I have no problem with that from a FS .. He turned the guy back in should have been guys coming with the correct angles .. His value is breaking up plays in the passing game he had 1 series that he saved 2 TD'S back to back .. Minkah is the best DB this Team has the entire scheme should be built around his pass defending skills.. I wont say it but it rymes with Bobber ..lol . we need another Safety so he can be the you know what most of the time..

Feeling good about Layne getting significant snaps next week? You shouldn't be, but that's what will happen with Haden out.

It's not that the Steelers can't win without him, but it's a hell of a lot less likely.

Come on man I’m just busting your balls. I want Haden to play, but that’s not happening so roll with what you got.

Troy just whiffed at times because he tried to blow everyone up.

I even think he credited Clark with being his backup when he was flying all over trying to make plays. Think he said that if he wasn’t back there, he couldn’t do what he did.

Lane was kind of thrust into that position the day before because of Haden’s positive test.
yup, it’s out of their hands now. Good thing is they still played decent outside a drive or 2 and it was the same routes they always got beaten on for the most part.

if they get by the Browns and Haden has no symptoms, you essentially get him back on 2 weeks rest for Divisional.

It is not that he can't. It just seems to me he is trying to avoid collisions. He doesn't like contact.

He doesn't seem willing to come up a stick a guy in the run game if he has too. He just waits and falls under the guy's ankles.

Ok Minkah tried tackling Chub up high in the open field and didn't make the tackle. Lots of DB's all over the league don't make that tackle on a RB like Chub.
Minkah was not afraid of contact when he put a hit on Landry at the 2 yd line and again he gave up the TD. How many safties nowadays blow up a WR like Landry and knock him backwards once he has a head of steam.

Troy tackled like he was shot out of a gun, but those TFL were mostly him reading the play and chopping the legs out from under the WR or RB before they had any momentum.
Troys methods were fun to watch but most likely gave him way more concussions then he ever admitted.

I can overlook a few misses in the open field but I don't agree he is a poor tackler, he is crucial to this defense and I would not want to see him get concussed or hurt a shoulder trying to blow somebody up.

He doesn't wrap up because he's trying to avoid shoulder injuries. Bank that he can make up for his deficiencies with other aspects of his game(INTs, in-the-box run stoppage).

Minka really needs to visit his former college coach Nick Saban and see how
to tackle correctly and how to play the position. His game has really fallen off and he needs a good reminder on how to
play the game correctly. He has been a disappointment this year.

It hasn't changed so much that you can't position yourself correctly, wrap up or drive through someone....... Just can't go for the head, neck or horse collar...... This is still tackling 101

I 100% agree but a Steelers reporter (I truly cannot remember who and will post if I find it) said after the game that Minkah was going at about 70% speed and made sure to protect himself from hits... so that was definitely part of it. Still, if that's the case, why the hell is he out there?

Maybe he’s nursing something to prevent a full-blown injury? Maybe he knew the Steelers were in the playoffs, win or lose, and would be without Hayden, so he was trying to protect next week’s chances…?

I noticed from the beginning of him being a Steeler that he tries to throw a shoulder into the ball carrier rather than wrap the player up. I was hoping that he would change the habit but apparently he hasn't. Both TD runs he could have stopped or at least maybe hold them a bit longer until help arrived. The first TD he took a horrible angle and then tried to arm tackle Chubb which didn't do anything. The TD to Jarvis Landry was his signature shoulder tackle which didn't stop the score. He wraps him up then there was immediate help in the area on that play.

I'm not completely dogging Minkah and still think he's an exceptional addition to this defense but his tackling technique is his main weakness. If some people don't see it then maybe they are just giving him a pass for all his other contributions. It's there plain as day week in and week out.

Unfortunately its a league wide problem, not just a Minkah/Steelers problem. After all the years of Yinz begging for a ball-hawk safety to come to Pittsburgh, now that we have one we are going to nit-pick his tackling? Heck, I remember the days when we were super hyped about getting a 7th round Gerod Holliman because "he has ball skills, screw it if he can't tackle".... We were all cool with sacrificing some of the tackling and in the box ability for the splash plays of a ball hawk back then, why are we so concerned with the tackling part now?

Its really not even that bad. I mean Fitz is no Troy P in the tackling department but he seems to be somewhere in the league average as far as DB's are concerned (league average for a DB is still not very good, but its all relative, yeah?). Would I like for him to make all the tackles? Yes. However, I think him being a mediocre tackler is far made up by his playmaking ability. TBH I am really not worried about it.

I think the "free pass for the other contributions" is where I stand on it. Most NFL DB's tackle like garbage, Fitz isn't an exceptionally poor tackler compared to the rest of the DB's in the league. Poor tackling technique is a league wide problem. I'd rather him be a mediocre tackler and the terror on the back end that he is than a guy who wraps up, plays relatively sound defense, but makes no splash plays. Everyone would dislike him even more if he was the latter anyways (see Terrell Edmunds).

The most tackles on the team shouldn’t come from your free safety but it does most int on the team . ..And plays no matter what .. give me a break no player is perfect on any team .

Clemson's James Skalski needs to make that visit as well. Although his recent hit in the Sugar Bowl was on a QB who was an open-field runner trying to gain more yards on the play. It was probably Skalski's history that led to that ruling and ejection. Not sure they would have called that hit on a regular running back like Sermon.
