Steel Machine: Ben don't make that tackle against Indy after Bettis fumble we have 5 SB's.

    Disco1981: Maybe

That's like saying if I do not wipe after taking a dump I won't get skid marks, maybe. BTW I do and still got skid marks during that particular play, I cannot afford Steeler junk because being a Steeler fan means you have to budget so much for new undies.

    Hey everyone.

Great thread for this day. I will break my thoughts down into two parts as I know my posts can get lengthy at times (smile). So, here I go.

    Ben's Legacy Part 1

Ben’s legacy is stone etched within the Steelers’ archives IMO. For those who are old enough to remember the gap between Terry Bradshaw and Ben Roethlisberger provided very little to cheer about. We could have, and should have, won Super XXX with Neil O’Donnell at the helm. Even with the two interceptions, we had Ernie Mills WIDE OPEN down the right sideline with a few minutes left to go in the game. If Neil sees him, and the way that momentum switched to our side, it would probably have been a wrap. That sucked. As a Steelers’ fan, and a Bill Cowher fan, I really wished we would have won that game.

IMO, it just would have changed the history of our organization in so many ways. After that it was a number of heartbreaks and took ten years later to finally get that “Ring”. Good for the Team. Good for Bill Cowher. As we know Ben was our Quarterback that made it all happen. One thing I get so frustrated of hearing is about Ben’s so-called “sub-par” performance in Super Bowl XL. Nonetheless, he still made enough plays to help us win that day. The bigger part that many people seem to forget is the historic Playoff march that Ben led us on to reach Super Bowl XL.

Time and time again some people make it seem like the regular season ended and our next game was the Super Bowl. Ben played lights out against the number 1, 2 and 3 seeds in the AFC Playoffs to get us to Super Bowl XL. All while winning on the road at that. Winning the Super Bowl is a cumulative accomplishment. It is not just about what happens in that one game. Sure it is a huge stage. However, and again, Ben led us to that day and did enough in that game to help bring it home. Man, the “vision” of some people, including some Steelers’ fans, is extremely “shortsighted”.

    Ben's Legacy Part 2

What we will never know is what might have been if Bill Cowher stayed with us. I would think that most of us know what lead to his departure from the Steelers' Organization. Unfortunately, his wife became seriously ill and passed away. Coach did the right thing to resign from his coaching position to be with his family. One thing I am so grateful for is that that Mr. Cowher’s wife and children were all together for that unifying moment of winning Super Bowl XL. The Cowher family is as much a part of Steelers’ tradition and fandom as the rest of us “true’ Steelers’ fans. Hopefully, winning Super Bowl XL brought some sense of closure, in some way, to the Cowher family. And in big part, Ben is to thank for that if so.

Admittedly, I do not follow a lot of college football. So, when we drafted Ben I was honestly not too well informed about who he was. One thing I do remember is his College Coach stating something to the effect that Steelers’ fans “will not be disappointed” with the drafting of Ben. I think we can all say his words carried, and continue to carry, a lot of truth.

Ben has given us way more “good” than “not good”. I would not trade him for any other QB. For those who may want him gone, and I honestly have no idea why, last season’s memories are still vivid in my mind and should be in everyone else’s. I like Mason and hope he can become “that guy”. However, he has not shown me anything that brings a sense of confidence over me if he was to become our starting QB. Get it together folks. For those who are asking him to ride off in the sunset, I would say re-think that thought. IMO, Ben still has plenty left in the tank and his second half performance in last week’s game is enough proof for me. With all of these budding stars on Offense I cannot think of a better person right now to lead them. I do not know about everyone else but I hope he stays on with us for quite some time to come.

Tomlin with Ben won another super bowl and went to another. Go compare the rosters from 2005 to 2010 vs Packers. There’s no guarantee a Bill Cowher coached team wins or even goes to another super bowl. He sure didn’t do much the first 8 games after the super bowl.

I don't put that much thought into it anymore. I never did, to be honest. Plus, anyone I did name was met with resistance, and usually a .

    ...... !!!!

Did this thread REALLY get created after a three game skid?! Ben's elbow was part of my concern. However, there was a far bigger issue at hand here; Randy Fichtner. I have come to terms that, should Big Ben come back in 2021, Randy is coming along with him.

As much as many of us would despise the thought of having Randy around for another year, that is likely what is going to happen.

Throttled by Tebow & Bortles in playoffs, worst QB rating to ever win super bowl, too dumb to know his career was over in 2017.

It is what it is really. Ben won two SBs. He could've won more maybe. Maybe he was carried in them. But even if he was, they don't win those with Tommy Maddox and Charlie Batch either. I think he had a great career, definitely HOF worthy. I do think it's time to close the door and think of life post Ben. It will be some tough times ahead. But this organization since the early 70s have been top notch and will find ways to move past Ben and field a high quality fb team. Lets enjoy these final games with Ben at the helm.

Ben has another year left. My guess is the Steelers get serious about qb in 2022 or later.

For all those who don't quite get it, we have the luxury of a HOF QB and HC. Many teams go generations without either, much less both. If the eyeball test isn't good enough, just look at the stats. If you can't appreciate it, I guess you just don't enjoy winning.

So, poster with 28 whole posts now is lecturing members because some may not "get it" or have exactly the same opinions on certain things and he guesses they don't enjoy winning. Really? Can't make this stuff up but there it is, right above.

My ex-wife is a great cook. While I knew that when we were married, I didn’t really know it until after we were divorced.

I think Mr. 28 Posts is trying to make a similar point.
