I have never said Ben was washed up after 2-3 losses. I have been saying it since the Tennessee game for his lack of consistency and missing open receivers, inaccuracy downfield and just plain fear of throwing long.

Over that same span of 12 years, the Saints had Brees, who is definitely a HoF caliber QB.
Same number of SB wins and playoff appearances.
Saints have fewer playoff wins, and four losing seasons over that same span.

Foles and Flacco are examples of "one-hit wonders", not QBs that could be depended on for long term success.

Flacco has also been paid "Big QB money" (comparable to Ben's), so I'm not sure why you chose him.
Flacco had a hot 3 game streak where his receivers made him look good. He was only MVP because of them.
When the Ravens had to cut those receivers to pay for Flacco's monster contract, he reverted to mediocrity.

Foles has shown he is not a starter.

Any team will look bad if you cherry pick against the best the other 31 teams have to offer.

Lamar's passing rating is five points higher than Ben's. I could not believe it when I saw it. The NFL statisticians must be giving Jackson "style" points.

Bens QB rating is essentially at league average. Combine that with an Offense that throws more than anyone and you have an avg offense at best. Unfortunately Ben has an above avg cap hit.

Lamarrs not getting any style points. QB rating is a pure statistic based on %comp, %TD passes, %int and yds/att. It’s only counts passing, so Lamarrs running doesn’t effect his QB rating.

Bens decline in recent yrs clearly shows up in his QB rating. A lot of fans will say: “What are taking about?, he’s rating is still 95, like it always has been!, there’s no decline!” But there one problem. When Ben started in 2004, the league avg QB rating was 82, so Bens 100 was way above avg. This yr the league avg is 93.7 so far, and Ben is 94.0. His passing stats are now pretty avg, and they didn’t used to be.

I know what the quarterback rating is and how it is figured. Style points in quotes was an attempt at humor. What is hurting Roethlisberger's QB rating is the yards per pass attempt where he is 31st in the league, due to the short throws and receiver drops. Completion %, TD %, and Int % are all better than his career averages.

All that’s true. But those figs are up for everyone around the league. In 2004, the league avg complet% was 59.8%, now is 65.4%. %Int were 3.2%, now it’s 2.2%, %Td was 4.4%, now 4.8%. The point is: Bens #s are better than his career avgs, but so are they for every QB playing today vs 10-15 yrs ago.

Back then Ben was getting 95’s on his tests when the rest of the class was getting 82. Today he’s still getting 95’s, but so is the rest of the class. QB rating ain’t the be-all end-all, but for most of the last 15 yrs it reckoned that Ben was far better than the avg QB, which is undeniable. Today, it reckons that he’s about avg. that may not be right, but he’s closer to avg than ever. And that undeniable too.

It was a gut check performance in the 2nd half vs. Indy. But you can't ignore his play for a month. He as well as the whole offense as a group stunk up the joint including coaches.

Lets hope that 2nd half mojo continues in our playoff games.

Still have to draft a QB in the 1st no matter what.

Still wish/think Ben should retire after this season. Just don't think he can lead us next year. Why prolong the inevitable?

In addition to his knee I was concerned about his elbow but then the last two quarters of the Colt game more or less showed me his elbow must be fine.

The only think I would disagree on with this post is Flacco only winning MVP because of his receivers, he played out of his mind that SB run, it wasn’t just good wide receiver play.

He played way above his head and cashed in on it and then his normal level of play took root again.

    Everything else I agree 100%

Correct me if I’m wrong but wasn’t Ben’ rating around 105 and the best of his career until we hit the last Baltimore game when our schedule was all screwed up? I know it’s making excuses but an old QB having to play that many games in so few days doesn’t do a 38 year old body any favors. He hit a bad stretch and it dragged his stats down. Outside of that, he’s played well above average this year which is why he was in the MVP discussion prior to that.

Ben hurt his knees in the Cowboys game. He aggravated then in the Skins game. That threw his accuracy and timing off a bit. His knees are getting better. The week off will help immensely.

If Ben comes out in the playoffs sharp, watch out.

You are likely correct that I am selectively thinking about his playing during that time.
And he did play at his peak during that 3 game stretch.

But there were so many deep balls where he lobbed a ball high in the air, and his receiver stopped running and just outfought the defender for the ball (or drew a PI on an under thrown moon ball). Good decision to find the 1-on-1, but not even close to a pass along the receiver's intended route (which is a criticism that Ben isn't doing on his deep-passes).

Ben has played in a weak division his entire career with 2 teams being bottom feeders of the league...all the while Ben has been surrounded with elite level players. So there's that.

I am in agreement we need a QB. I'm also about 99.9% sure it won't happen. I think the Steeler organization is set on Mason after Ben. Hope he surprises us!!

Hyperbole much? Take a look at the careers of Brady, Rogers, and to a degree Brees.

Big Ben has 4 games to prove how awesome he is. Not for this year, but all time. He will need to have a playoff run that matches what Aaron Rodgers did in his Super Bowl run. Otherwise, its bye bye in the divisional or AFC Title game.

I was unaware that Ben played in a 5-team division during his entire career.

"Bottom feeder" fits the Browns (1 playoff appearance, this year).

But for the other teams, you have
the Steelers (8 division titles, 11 times making the playoffs),
the Ravens (5 division titles, 10 playoffs),
and the Bengals (4 division titles, 7 playoffs).

I wrote this before Rudolph's performance against the clowns. I feel he has taken strides and I feel comfortable enough to go forward with him.

Unless their is a can't miss they have an eye but I feel at this point we need to draft a Left Tackle in the 1st, especially where we will be picking.
