    Doubtful I am afraid.

Darnold will not only have to be owed 2021 but also his own inpending fifth year option in 2022 if the Steelers believe him to be the future. Having both him and Big Ben is simply not feasible due to Big Bens big cap hit. Unless Big Ben is being released, Sam's cost is too high for the team.

Depends on when they trade for him. Darnold is due $9m in August, so the Steelers won’t trade for him before then but if they were to trade for him after that his salary costs for 2021 are negligible. It’s possible that the Jets keep him as well.

I don’t see it happening either unless Ben retires, which is also a possibility. There will be other suitors, teams like the 49ers may be interested. Patriots would probably be interested too but doubtful the Jets would trade him to a division rival.

It is not just the $9 Million that is owed to Sam in August. Pittsburgh would have to pick up his fifth year option. Nevermind Sam Darnold as that goes for Minkah as well.

The Jets probably won’t exercise that option and even if they do 2022 will see a sharp bounce for the Cap as the Covid effect will hopefully be gone and new TV money comes in to play. Trading for Darnold after August would be very doable if Ben intends to retire at the end of 2021. It’s not even worth entertaining the idea if he wants to play on beyond that however. Darnold is too expensive to be a backup.

The Jets aren’t getting Trevor Lawrence now, I suppose they could still draft a QB, but will that guy be better than Darnold? I don’t really see why they’d give up on Darnold without an alternative in hand.

It would not be the Jets that have to pick up that option. If Darnold does indeed become a Steeler, Pittsburgh is the one who has to pick up the option. That extension no longer is New Yorks court but Pittsburghs.

I watched this kid in a Bowl Game against Penn state I think as a sophomore I believe.

Who really knows but it seems some of these kids out of college go to the Browns, Lions, Jets, Raiders and its like they go backwards in development.

I think its beyond the fact of what Booger says that this generation doesnt treat it as a business but the culture round the young QB.

Then again...Cam has Josh in NE and he has regressed even after serious preparation.

Amazing how its such a crapshoot with players that fit the mold vs the investment of money and time that is made.

If I owned the Steelers I probably would bring in more scouts to evaluate his film to see if he is fixable from the head up.

    Why?!

Woody Johnson is a shock jock owner living in the most pressure intense media market in the United States. He needs someone to sell his franchise to a market that is worth billions. If that is enacting on a desperate move like drafting someone like Zach Wilson, bank on Woody to go for it.

I’m aware of that but in the situation I put forward above where he does not become a Steeler until August the decision on his fifth year option would already have been made by the Jets in May, and whoever trades for him would be tied to that.

I think there are too many barriers for him to be a viable option for Pittsburgh. I don’t know if they are interested in him or not but I think the Jets could get a cleaner and better deal done with another team like the 49ers or Colts. The only way the Steelers could pull it off is if the Jets agree to eat his 2021 salary before trading him, I don’t see why they would agree to do that unless the draft compensation is very significantly enhanced.

I guess we will have to wait and see about what the Jets would want for the number 2 pick. Will be interesting to see the movement when the season is over.

Best part in that article is the Steelers moving on from Fitchtner after his contract expires.

Let’s hope that comes to fruition.

QB is my biggest fear going forward. Let's say Ben has an amazing run in the Playoffs. He'll come back for sure and I doubt the Steelers will focus on finding a future QB. I'm on the side that thinks Ben is past being great anymore and am concerned he hampers our future but that is just my opinion and hope it's all wrong.

It boggles my mind how come Cam cant excel in a RPO offensive scheme. I think has matured but his body took a beating. Watch Harbaugh get him super cheap and turns his career around.

Darnold could be another Tannehill once he gets away from Gase.

lol...I am starting to wishfully think that the league has figured it out but LJ is started to use the WRs more than most younger QBs who use the TE as a pacifier.
