This team seemingly has not only an old ass defense along with an outdated coordinator, but also absolutely no talent with its depth. So essentially, there isn't really a light at the end of the tunnel for this defense anytime soon. Unfrotunately a bad D impacts the offense as well. If this is accruate, then basically we are going to waste the best years of our top 5 QB's career. Offense may play well, but it won't matter if we continually give up 4th qtr leads. We all know a team only goes as far as its QB and we did not have even an avg QB for 2 decades before Ben. Most teams don't. SO are we looking at yrs and yrs and yrs of mediocorty until we finally get lucky and find the next Ben? I would just hate to see us waste what is a real talent. Sucks.

Right now we have 7 draft picks in the upcoming draft. All 7 need to be used on the defensive side of the ball. UDFAs can fill in on the offensive side of the ball.

Do you think Pouncey and DeCastro are all the O-Line needs?

We need more talent on D and the O-Line.

    Agreed.

D should come first in this occasion I believe though.

Somebody else said they should blow the D up in the off season, I agree with that as well.

I have been screaming to draft 3 DB'S in the first 3 rounds for years....We have some young talent in Van Dyke,Brown, and Allen,,,we need these guys on the field not Lewis, and Mundy...I would also like to see Goldon on the field...If these guys are not the answer lets find out know so when the draft comes we know whether to go FS/SS/ or CB....Either way we need at least 2 talented guys from that spot in the next draft..

Might even want to consider trading away future picks to get in some elite DB help while we still have Ben.....

I've been wanting it as well.

Took a while for that to materialize as a real need I suppose.

What they need to do is trade up for a top notch db. How do you think we got troy. He wasn't going to fall to us, so we traded up. I know thr track record speaks for itself as far as draft picks success, but for us to get a difference maker in the secondary we need to give up future picks and get a star.

This team needs a whole new secondary. Troy has Bob Sanders Syndrome aka Mr. Glass. K. Lewis and I. Taylor may be the wrost CBs in the league, and I'm talking W. Gay bad! I'm starting to think the reason the star players on this team are getting hurt is because they have to play lights out to make up for the poor play of everyone else. The league said C.Johnson was wased up yet he put 91 on our pitiful run defense, and an old washed up Hasselback had almost 300 yards passing, this is the Titans who are the laughing stock of the league. We gave up 34 points to the Raiders who couldn't even muster a TD against the Broncos. If they don't draft some top defensive players and go after a FA CB then we may as well get used to it. Revis may be done from the Jets, I don't care if had 3 torn ACLs he is better on his knees than what we have right now.

I think it all starts up front.

No pressure = your DBs look like garbage.

This team either due to injury, personel, or outdated scheme isn't getting anywhere near the consistent pressure we're used to.

Aren't we supposed to have some of the depth at those positions already?
Only person I can't think of the backup for is Keisel. I don't remember who backs him up.

We've been drafting in those areas the last few years, The secondary needs some draft love.
Got to get some capable people back there for troy and ryan.

Indeed. I am wondering if the 3-4 scheme is not a good one for the way the game has changed. The Packers run the same defense the Steelers do and they too are getting lit up.

An outdated coordinator? 2-1 in Super Bowls in the last 7 years says something far different than DL being outdated. Lets not forget that if it wasn't for #7 forcing the ball into double coverage 2x we very well might be 3-0.

Well then we need to study what the niners and texans are doing and copy it because we aren't getting those results. Judging from that list though, I'd say it's time to take the 3-4 out to the barn and shoot it.

Me too, part of the problem is that you cant run a zone without getting pressure on the QB, even a mediocre QB is going to expose a zone if he has enough time. DL needs to go back into the lab and create some new blitz packages.

Nice idea, but the reason niners and texans are successful are the players, guys like patrick willis, justin smith, aldon smith, navarro bowman of the niners, guys like jjwatt, jonathan joseph, brian cushing, of the texans. Lets face it, we were the envy of what every team wanted their defense to look like, we had the players that fit the system, now those players are either gone, hurt or old. As Mike "the walking cliche" Tomlin would say, "such is life in the nfl".

We can't keep drafting the same positions year after here without letting the other players play. I believed we are set at offensive line and defensive line. Just need depth that doesn't require a high draft pick. Also I believe we are good at cornerback jus need depth there as well. The reason I say this is because we drafted heyward and hood and ta'amu. They need to play. We also drafted Allen, brown, lewis and golden. They also need to play. If we keep drafting high in these areas (oline included) other areas will suffer
That being said we need high draft picks in linebckr and safety. We should be drafting two linebackers every draft since they are so important to our scheme.

We need corners. Period. We have no corners whatsoever. We get eat up on the edges and have forever. Hasslebeck knew Ike is was weak and that's why he kept picking on him. Especially in the red zone. But we also have a pretty non existent pass rush. There were plays where Hasslebeck had all night to throw. I'm in favor of giving McClendon more time. I think Jason Worilds has stepped up pretty well in Lamarr's absence. For the people thinking Sean Spence would be out there I just would like to say that since we've not see too much of Cam Heyward I really think it's stretching it to say that Spence would get a lot of snaps. I'm not saying he wouldn't be good I'm just saying I don't think they would use him.

    Yep.
The better defenses on this list have play-making lineman.
That aspect is making our LB's worse.
Remember, the term 'Steel Curtain' initially applied to the DL.

Even in today's game, a solid DL with one really good player, makes the whole defense better.
I think Kiesel still does a good job, but, with advancing age, and playing next to mannequins, that surely isn't helping.
