Well he certainly does not have good hands. lol we lead the league drops. He's part of that issue. His ball skills are average at best.

Dropping is typically a coaching / preparation problem. Weak hands lead to drops and fumbles. They will not fix this now, but maybe an off-season of serious work will make them better. Of course there are some players that will never have good hands no matter how had they work at it. Hopefully that's not the case here...but IMO we are still wasting our time thinking Washington and Johnson will be anything better than average. They don't have the physical skills or makeup to think they can be developed into great WR's. These guys are not ever going to be good wide outs that stoke fear into opponents. You can usually see if they have skills fairly quickly. Sure they're good enough with the ball in their hands but that's not the issue.

We've had a long line of good WR's over the last 10 years. Everyone of them showed skills in their first 2 seasons. (Ward, Brown, Wallace, Holmes, Sanders,Bryant, JuJu, etc) Claypool in his rookie season has shown more upside than Washington and Johnson. IMO they are backups...#3 or #4 WR's. We need to use a high pick on a WR in the next draft. Someone has to replace JuJu if we can't re sign him and that player is not on this roster.

Everyone was hyping him in the offseason. Hes good but inconsistent. Its why he never reached his full potential

I said it before and ill say it again. This team on offense doesn't have elite talent. Claypool maybe can develop into that but other than that its not here. Ben has always had great talent around him to throw to and hand it to. He doesn't have that and he's too old to try to overcompensate for it this late in his career when he's never been in a postion where he had to

I think the issues are different for different receivers.

DJ is inconsistent - great one play, abysmal the next. I see nothing to suggest that will change, so it's a risk/reward thing.
Washington had some issues with decision-making in his first season but gets the job done.
Claypool needs to learn some better habits against pro corners when going up for the ball, but the potential is clearly there.
Ebron's hands aren't great but Ben seems to zoom in on him for some reason.
Juju has made a clear effort with his hands, but he's getting double coverage.

Added to that, I feel that while we were scheming well in the first half of the season, the last few games the OC has struggled to get our guys open. In particular, Claypool seems to be getting used far less creatively. We need a plan B when the quick short slants and crossing routes get covered up. Part of that is about the lack of a run game, and part of that is about having a 3rd string Centre playing. All pieces of the pie.
