If you so happened to catch a "football life" this week which show cased the Rams front four of Deacon Jones, Merlin Olsen, Lamarr Lundy, and Rosie Greer in whcih they called them the best front four ever to play the game.... maybe in their time!!!!! but i believe the "STEEL CURTAIN" was the best of all time and not cause im a homer they not only dominated Offenses they dismantled them aswell when you played against the Steelers Defenses of the seventies you knew you were in a dog fight beacuse you came out battled and bruised. :( :yeehaw:

you would have to throw the purple people eaters in that mix too. those were the 3 best front 4's in the game. 1. steel curtain. 2. fearsome foursome. 3. purple people eaters in that order.

I didn't catch the documentary, but I think its tough whenever that sort of show attempts to herald any particular unit as the "Best of All Time". The Curtain, the Fearsome Foursome, the Purple People Eaters, the NY Sack Exchange, and on and on are all fantastic front lines that an argument could be made for. I guess the best argument would be...how many of 'em were the lynchpins of a true dynasty?

    Yup. Just one.

No that was the whole season. I think they had like 4 shut outs in last 6 games.

Yeah I agree Steel Curtain was better, but we had some awesome Linebackers and Mel Blount too, so the entire defense gets attention.

But that was a well done documentary, of course being 27 years old I never got to see the Fearsome foursome or even the Steel curtain, so these well done documentary are awesome for me, a lot of these guys couldn't play in today's league. I think Merlin Olsen could have, but Deacon Jones was one mean SOB.

sorry misread your first quote. yes they had a good run down the last 6. the d carried them in that run. as for the whole season, i don't remember, but it was a good team and arguably one of our best. franco, rocky and bradshaw went down though.

I hear you, i beleive it also focused alot on their off the field relationship aswell they were a pretty tight group during and after their playing days you can't buy that in todays NFL. If you are old enough to remember Rosie Greer stared in a movie called "the thing with two heads" pretty halariuos the two heads never wanted to do the same thing if you could imaging that.

it was a good time for football back then. the o-linemen couldn't use their hands then either. the d-linemen beat the hello out of them. they would counter with chewing on body parts in the pile though. tough game back then.

True, true... todays Steelers team is more referred to because of their ability to not only draft but to consistantly produce dominate Linebacker corps.

Here, here.. head slap, jab in the eye, punch in the gut, forearm to head it was all fair game back then, unfortunately alot of ex-players are crippled because of their fearsome play back then, but if ask them if they would have changed their game they would say he-- no we had fun back then.

as much as i love the old steel curtain defense, and as much respect i have for the fearsome foursome, purple people eaters etc..., the scariest d-line i've seen was in philadelphia with reggie white, clyde simmons, jerome brown and mike pitts......... no one wanted to block those guys!!!!!!!
