In an interview on Steelers.com, Ben reports that he tells the offense he wants to go for 30 points. He says he'd like to go for 40, but he believes 30 is good.

I like that Ben has this attitude. I believe he knows that the offense can perform to this level. I like that he is setting this goal, as a leader.

As I've said before, the defense is struggling, currently, and is not performing up to the level of dominance we have seen from SB40, onward. If the offense can put up even 24 points/game, and not commit turnovers, then I believe the team will stack wins. I think the current defense can hold opposing teams to 14-17 points/game.

Hopefully, with Harrison back, we'll see a return to intimidating Steelers defense that stifles opposing offenses and prevents them breaking 10 points/game.

I agree, Bens playing fantastic this year, he's improved on things that people were getting on him for years and I admit it's made him an even better QB. Ben and the offense are the least of our concerns this year.

    Lost to the Bronco's 31-19
    Lost to the Raiders 34-31

Looks like Ben needs to recalculate.

I hear you, but that's the D... if the D holds teams to <=17 then we win all the games, thus far, I think.

Ben did say he'd like to go for 40... on the defense's bad days... that may be more like a requirement! LOL

Not arguing w/ Ben, as I think 30 pts from the O should be enough.

But in 4 games, they got 30 just once, and they lost. Must have been a Bruce Arians carryover, where they scored so fast that the D didn't have a change to rest.

Ben should stop focusing on specific numbers and instead focus on being more consistent. He's gotten better, but he's not there yet. This last game against Philly was unacceptable. That can't happen with the talent we have, especially against a defence that really isn't that special.

I can't think of a season start where after 4 games, Ben has been more consistent.

If the offense had delivered in crunch time vs the Broncos and Raiders the team probably would had won both games.

It's probably a little unrealistic to expect the defense to hold offenses to <=17 points on a consistent basis in today's NFL.

Or if the defense shows up at all they probably win both games, definitely the Raiders game.

I like that Ben is setting goals for himself and the offense.
It's funny how some can't give credit where credit is due when it comes to #7. He's been as consistent as any QB in the NFL. One pick in 4 games, c'mon guys. To suggest that the losses aren't the defenses fault this year is comical.

Everyone has off days, even very talented offenses. (See Tom Brady vs. Cardinals). And Ben made a few nice throws that were dropped by his receivers. You can't put it all on Roethlisberger's shoulders. Its football, its unpredictable.

Yup. If AB holds on to that perfectly thrown ball we have 20 points instead of 16, and if Wallace figured out what way to look over his shoulder we could be talking 27 points instead of 20. Ben has been on-point all season.

Exactly. We just need the defense to kick in, and I think the Steelers will have the balance they need. The offense is definitely heating up.

Yep, shows how flawed the ranking system is.

Very flawed ..the D is simply not making the plays and getting off the field when they need to..Could care less what the rank is..Make the plays on the field!

True, but that is based on yards allowed. I'd rather give up the ranking and minus the oppositions' points by 10 pts/game!

Yes, flawed for defensive ranking, but good for overall team ranking.

If the defense is not giving up yardage, but the opposing offense is putting up points, then it tells me that one, or more, of the following is occurring: 1) Steelers offense is turning the ball over in their own territory, 2) Steelers special teams is not winning the yardage war on kicks/punts, and/or 3) Steelers defense is committing A LOT of penalties.

In situations #1 and #2, the defense is working with a short field, so even if they give up a score, they aren't giving up much yardage.

In situation #3, the defense is still letting the offense down the field, but not in a way that reflects on the opposing offense's yardage gain. These yards would be found in the penalties stat.
