2 things that irritate me most are:

1). When our def blames a loss on communication. How many years have they been playing together? I say BS!
2). When we say that the young players don't play because our def is too complicated. Well sure doesn't look that complicated when teams are moving the ball pretty easily, especially late in the game! Other teams have figured out this complex def. I say BS!

I'm not saying you're wrong, but do you think the defense shuts down Brady an Co. the way they did with Brown and Allen? Maybe, maybe not.

Well, it has had its up and downs (vs Ne, vs Bal), but agree on the need of Brown & Allen getting reps.

We are deluded somewhat. Our defense puts up great stats but going back to 2007 they have not been great in key situations. Fred Taylor ran all over them in the regular season then they let David Garrad beat them in a home playoff game.

Look at the 4th quarter of the SB against the Cards. Ben's comeback saved us from another embarrassment.

In 2009 there were too many to count. SOmething needs to change.

they had two somewhat bad games against the Jags some teams match up better and have good games its the NFL no one is ever going to shut every team down 100 percent of the time! and the SuperBowl isn that the same game that had the greatest D play in SuperBowl history? lol justsaying every year we are a TOP 10 D im fine with that yes i wish we had Rod Woodson and D Green in there prime at Corner but everyone cant be a Hall of Famer Ike is a top 20 CB and Gay does get burnt on plays but he also makes plays and is no where as bad as people make him out to be! :herewego!:

Our fans are spoiled and expect way too much from the Defense in this day and age when all the rules tilt the table in favor of the offense. You are the same ones who say it is a passing league and we should be a passing team. Well, what is it? Watch pther football games and teams -- ther is no defense out there that does what some Steeler fans expect. Sometimes you have to be realistic about how the game has evolved. Mostly, you need to outscore your opponent and have the defense hold them off more than their defense stops you. Our defense does this as well or better than any in the league. Our offense is capable but still is not living up to what it can be -- we need TDs in the red zone and need to stop killer turnovers. We do that, we win. simple as that, The days of juggerknot defenses are over (due to the rules and officiating).

I still maintain that our defensive issues are partly because they are on the field a lot longer the past 4 or so years than they ever used to be.

There are definite needs however. Inside LB and Corners. And how about blitzing more late in games, instead of rushing 3? Play to win, instead of playing not to lose.

I have nothing against Gay, he has played well. The SB runback was great but the fourht quarter when the game was on the line they allowed the Cardinals to take the lead. Imagine f they would have held it?

I'm with ya' on these. Don't they practice communicating like this during the week? If your D is too complicated for young players, why don't they simplify it so they can excel? And haven't these "young players" been playing football since they were 13 or so. They are actually 10 year veterans. That's why I hate the excuse "Rookie mistake". Most of these mistakes are things that are drilled into them from the time they could hold a football.

I agree they have been on the field longer....

Also injuries are killing them this year. Woodley and Harrison haven't really played together too much this year. All int's this defense hauls down are due to the front 7 forcing the QB into a bad decision, they are usually not from the DB making a great individual play.

Our offense needs to score more TD's. While our defense is consistently at least good, we can't expect them to shut down every team every game. We can expect our offense to show an upward trend of scoring more points, especially with a QB/OC tandem that has been together for what, five years now?

In the recent past, with the old rules, if Steelers scored 17 point, they could count on their defense to hold the opponent for a win.

It seems now, with the new offense-friendly rules, Steelers offense needs to put up 24 points every game. Anything less and a win is not a sure thing.
