Does this team really need K. Lewis?

I ask if he is really needed because he is terrible at coverage just like most of our DBs but at least they can tackle, it seems he is a liability on the run defense too. That 4th down conversion did it for me with him, Timmins give a good effort and Lewis has a chance but instead of trying to make the play he makes a half hearted reach with his arms as if that would stop a good RB, you couldn't tackle a high school RB like that.

 

If he squares up he makes that tackle and it's a turnover on downs. But, it's hard to ask that out of your cornerback, they aren't well known for great text book tackling most of the time.

 

I would have loved to see K Lewis go at him like a heat seeking missile and end that drive...but had he done that and missed...outside contain would have been lost...and vulnerable.

Ill take K Lewis over W. Gay...all day...everyday.

Yeah...I was thinking the same thing. That was horrible. It was like a disease because Ike and Mundy followed suit during that drive by missing tackles. Our only above-average DB on the team is the one who can't seem to stay on the field.

There was a post about biggest disappointments do far. Cortez Allen is mine. Keenan Lewis doesn't have the ability to be a number one; physically that is. Cortez does have those abilities. Yet, just like James harisson he is raw and needs to learn the role inside the defense. He isn't good enough to have a team adjust style for, ever. But, he can me on par with the better number 2 CBs in the nfl.

I site cromrotie ( sp?) from the jets. He could be that.

 

Mundy,is worse in pass coverage along with he gets juked out on runs. Seen it again today, just like in the Oakland game.

Coaches need to do something there,because with Troy out again,we are hurting at safety, and Mundy is a liability as long as he is there!

 

i still don't know why we didn't try to upgrade the safeties depth , what they saw on mundy ?

 

I think in time Cortez Allen will be starter worthy, however he still needs some experience.

I'm really concerned about Curtis Brown though, if I recall he was a 3rd round pick in the same draft as Allen. I would have expected him to be the one really pushing Lewis for a starting spot, but it hasn't seemed to happen at all. I think Brown got more playing time last year. It is almost like he regressed?

 

Agreed! Mundy is quite the liabillity for this team. Everytime he marches out on the field, he is a big liability. Wait until they play against a good QB, he will be victimized. In all the games that he has played this year, he has stuck up the joint.

Where is Curtis Brown. During training camp I thought he was compeating with Lewis, and Allen. It seems he is no where to be found. We have three young cornors and none of them are starter worthy. Lewis, is not the one. He can't cover nore can he tackle. He is a liability for this defense too. He plays off like McFadden used to do and gets torched most of the time. When a QB comes to the line, they look at him and throw the ball to his man when they need yards or a first down. He is not a quality starter in this league, only a stop gap. The Steelers need to do something, and getting rid of him would be a start.

Look at the Eagles. A lot of folks say the Steelers WR's had a bad game yesterday. We only had one TD and that was a run by Mendenhall. Who won the battle of our WR's vs the Eagles DB's? I would say the Eagles DB's won that battle. The Eagles play that up in your face bump and run defense on the receivers. Something that I wish the Steelers would use. They invade your personal space and don't let you get a lot of seperation in pass coverage. Thats why Ben only had 207 passing yards yesterday. Ike Taylor is the only cornor that the Steelers have that attempts to play that type of coverage. I would like to see if Cortez Allen could play that type of coverage, I think he can but the Steelers don't want to play that type of coverage, they would rather play 10 yards off and try and come up and make a tackle.

 

How are we suppose to know if Cortez Allen, Curtis Brown, Golden can play?
They never get an oppurtunity, how about Tamu, Heyward,Mclendon, why aren't these guys
seeing some playing time? DICK?

 

I thought this was going to be the year when our db's really shine.No one has showed up but clark and this is including troy.Maybe we can give the kid golden a chance.This is pitiful, its like we are going backwards.Ike is our no.1 and just as sorry as the rest.No more excuses for him either.

 

Lewis said he would be a Probowler this year, right?
