Sorry, Wallace, but Opportunity pulled into your driveway, got out of the car, walked up your sidewalk and rang your doorbell this summer. When you didn't answer, even though he knew you were home, he got back in his car and left. He had a huge bag of cash for you, probably more than you deserved, but since you didn't answer the door he had no choice but to leave. After today's performance by Mendy coupled with the fact that the Steelers running game has been anemic without him, Opportunity is now plugging in Mendy's address into his GPS, has thrown the cash back into his car and has begun the drive to his residence. Opportunity, many times, knocks (or rings the doorbell) only once, and he pulled out of your driveway never to be seen in your neighborhood again. May be time to put the "for sale" sign up pretty soon.

I knew all along that if a deal didn't get reached with Wallace for this season that it would be his last. If they couldn't come to an agreement this season, how would that ever come to one next year, his price is only going to go up, unless he has a horrific season. And I think tagging him will be out of the question too, big number for just 1 year.

I agree TE. Just my opinion, but it seems to me that Wallace doesn't really want to be here. I get the same vibe with Wallace that I got with Neil O'Dummy a few years ago when he tried to leave the Steelers by signing an offer sheet with the Bucs before finally signing with the Jets the next year. He didn't want to be in Pittsburgh. I really believe he will ultimately end up costing himself money, but we'll see. I understand he had a lackluster game today but I didn't get to watch. You may not realize this, TE, but I'm not the biggest Wallace fan in the world ;) but I think he'll end up regretting not opening the door to Opportunity when he had a chance.

Then you will most likely be happy next year :lolol:

The thing that kills me about Wallace is that he doesn't seem to try. WR will drop a ball from time to time but Wallace just looked like he put in no effort. Brown had a bad drop but he came up huge with some tough catches later in the game. I get the feeling that Wallace doesn't really care.

He's proving that he can't go up and get the ball with consistency. That's why no one threw that kind of cash his way. He has speed and can make a catch "sometimes". I think his price goes down unless this team gets to the playoffs and goes deep.

And Mendy is proving that the Steelers running game needs him desperately right now. His explosiveness and sheer athletic ability is so far above the other RBs on the team it's stunning! If he keeps this up, Opportunity will be ringing his doorbell with the mother load.

Oh yeah. Maybe I wandered into the wrong post. ;)

Actually, the conversation had turned to Mendy and how far ahead he was of the other RBs and I thought they were commenting on that. My apologies.

Mendy is the man where the RBs are concerned. I have been saying this since last year when most everyone else was riding the Redman train...

As far as Wallace goes... I was disappointed in the drops he had, yesterday. But I'm not going to go so far as to say he isn't a good WR. Brown has made several mistakes in the past two games, as well. We'll see. Many of Wallace's missed catches, on deep balls, going back to SB45, have to do with over- and under-thrown balls. Yesterday's misses on shorter routes were disappointing, but not a deal-breaker, for me. I'm still a Wallace fan. I'll keep my eyes open, though.

It was good to see the Steelers win, yesterday. Even if it was an ugly win... It's a start.

HERE WE GO STEELERS! HERE WE GO!! :herewego:

Of course he isnt playing all out, that 2.8 mill tender offer is sticking in his craw, if they had franchised him and paid him the 9 mill top 5 pay like wess welker is getting, he would be laying it all on the line like welker is doing. Thats what happens when a team makes a player think they are disrespecting him, reallisticly how a player thinks about how much they should lay on the line is commensurate to how much they are being paid....In regards to Mendy, he had a great game yesterday, he averaged close to 6 yards a carry, and the Oline had their best game run blocking yet, he brought inspiration to the running game, and kudos to him for showing he can be that 1st round back we thought we we're getting in the draft....

I think part of the perception that Wallace doesn't try/care is that while he has an abundance of speed, he's lacking in the spatial awareness department. He doesn't seem to have the balance and footwork of Brown, and that shows.

As for Mendy, I'll stick a sock in my mouth and admit that he's a very valuable asset to the team. I followed the belief that RB's are a dime-a-dozen and that you can find quality backs anywhere. Well, Mendy shot that beleif right in the head yesterday, as we have quite a few RB's "off the street" that can't hold Mendy's jock if given the chance! I still think with a dominating OL you can plug and play most RB's, but with not many dominant OL's out there the RB is still a position of importance. Mendy still has a good 4 years left in him and I hope he spends it with us.

Agreed. I posted apologies to Mendy a few days ago because I've been a pretty big critic of his. But seeing how our other RBs performed behind THIS OL made me realize that the yardage Mendy gained last year and his 4.1 YPC were pretty impressive. The OL had its best game of the season yesterday and it's no coincidence that it was Mendy's first game toting the rock this year. He makes the OL better.

I think Mendy would be fooling himself if he thinks the PGH STEEERS are going
to break the bank on any RB in the near future. RB are a dime a dozen in this league now.
Tell your kids that are interested in footbal to find a position that will pay, QB,CB, LB,OT

I also find it hard to believe that the Steelers will break the bank on Mendenhall. I think the writing was on the wall last year that this would be his last season in a Steelers uniform, no matter how much he bails out our run game this season.

To that extent, Wallace won't get the money either.

I am not so sure. I am starting to think that the Steelers might actually free up some money from the defense and invest in the offense more with the changing NFL. I know that seems strange, but it just might happen. I could see the team morphing into more of a team that tries to outscore the other team (like the Pats) and just hope the defense stands up every once in a while.

Yep, the game has changed. Shutting teams out through smothering defences isn't practical anymore. QB's are just too good around the league. What we need is a defence that makes splash plays. Look at Chicago, they play good defence, not great, but they create a lot of pressure and they force a ton of turnovers. That's what the focus needs to be on these days, turnovers, as opposed to trying to shut teams out completely. It's great if we can do both, but that's not practical against the better teams in the league.
