Why are you giving career stats on Colquitt? THat doesn't mean anything when he is like 38 years old and his avg has been declining. Who cares what is avg is over his career, what is it this year?

Waitman had a very good last year at South Alabama...over 45+ yard avg, and very good downed punts inside the 20.

And evidently if he has been practicing, and they have noticed it, he is better than Colquitt on his avg punting distance.

Let's see what he can do...

Btw, if this signifies that we will be more aggressive about going for it then I am all on board. It is really hard to stop a team when they use all four downs.

And they didn't think he was good enough so they brought in Colquitt. I don't think being worse than someone who was deemed not good enough is a good way to keep your job.

I'm glad Tomlin is looking for ways to improve. There's obviously some information that we're not privy to that factored into the decision.

Oh yeah, I forgot. Tomlin isn't consulted. He doesn't see the team on the field and make recommendations. He's just the head coach. He just shows up on game days and takes count.

    Tomlin: CLAYPOOL
    Mapletron: HERE
    Tomlin: COLQUITT
    ...
    ...
    Tomlin: COLQUITT
    ...
    ...
    Tomlin: Where's Colquitt?
Colbert from around the corner: I cut him. Use Waitman.
    Tomlin: Who?

And James Harrison can be the long snapper.

I just don't really get bringing back a guy you decided wasn't good enough, especially one that you had for so long.

No signing so I guess Corliss Waitman from the practice squad will have to do.

    :confused1:

Punting didn't strike me as much of a problem. Maybe there's something else to this.

Oh, it was a problem. Just look at where we rank. It just hasn't cost us games because of the rest of the team. I think they were hoping Colquitt was going to get it going but finally ran out of patience.

If the punter is a factor on Sunday, the Steelers will lose. When will the offense score a first possession touchdown?

I understand the Colquitt release was a head scratcher by some. I get that because Colquitt does have quality experience vs an unknown. Keep in mind that, after we lost Shaun Suisham for good, Tomlin had to find his next Kicker. We know how the whole Josh Scobee incident turned out. However, the kicker he did find turned out to be the perfect replacement in Cris Boswell.

Let us not sell Corliss Waitman short. It did not take long for Boswell to impress back in 2015. For that matter, Corliss has been on the team for a while now and it is possible he has shown enough to be given a look. Time to find out.

I agree with that, but apparently settling for being mediocrity is fine for some people.

If it works, then you got a good punter for the future and if it doesn't work then you go with Berry who's statistically better.

hopefully Waitman does great but the timing is a bit odd when the guy has not punted in a game in over 2 years. Seems like being left footed would be an adjustment for the protection as well.

Tomlin had made it clear for awhile now that the punting was not good enough. I think they finally just got tired of waiting for it to improve.
