No punter on the active roster

 

Does Ray Guy have a son?? Finding a kicker has always confused me. Just has to be 32 guys out there who can kick a football really good. I'm thinking 3/4 of the soccer players in the world could punt in the NFL.

 

This doesn't compute. We're going into our first real slobberknocker of the season without a punter. Colquitt wasn't great, but still. This isn't the time for Tomlin to go mad scientist.

 

This news is about as exciting as a snail race.

 

I'm going on record right now. If this blows up in Tomlin's face, I'm going to say bad things about him.

 

I thought Berry was coming back that's why there doing this. If u don't have a punter for a game then that's pretty dam idiotic

 

Just make sure the protection works.

 

Colquitt had a 44.8 career average and and Waitman has a 42.7 average. Pretty dumb move in the middle of the season unless Colquitt is dinged up that we don't know about.

 

Hopefully this doesn't mess with Boswell's place kicking. Dustin did an excellent job handling a really bad snap last game.

 

I just don't see where there's much of an improvement. Colquitt fielded a terrible snap last game for an extra point. Hopefully this new guy can do the same if necessary. Basically, we're trading one average punter for another average punter according to statistics. This move is very surprising to me. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

 

It's a lost art form. I watch a lot of high school football, smaller schools, in PA, some teams are so awful at kicking and punting.

A lot of them don't even attempt to kick a PAT they go for 2, and have to squib kickoffs because they can't get it deep.

With smaller high schools your lucky if 2 out of 10 teams can legit kick and punt.

 

If your good enough on offense no need for the punter unless he's holding the PAT of course

That was a good read. He's got a very interesting story. Hopefully he can have some long term success with us.

 

Agree. It's not like Colquitt has been shanking punts off the side of his foot. This new guy has a lower average. Maybe he had a great week in practice but overall I do not understand why we would switch punters at this stage of the season. Hopefully, it doesn't back fire on us with a missed extra point in a tight game.

It's not very Steelers like. I don't think they would make such a big change over one great week.

 

Colquitt is averaging 43.1 yards per punt this year. He also is tied for the worst net average in the league and we have had good coverage. It doesn't matter what he used to average. It seems like his leg is dead.
