Roger Goodell and the competition committee have destroyed defense. You could put 11 Minkah Fitzpatrick's and it wouldnt make a lick of difference. They've destroyed the running back position. A kicker is more valuable in winning games than any position in the NFL other than a QB or Receiver. Matter of fact, the refs are second to QBs, followed by the WR and Kicker. The NFL is a joke of a product and if it werent for the Steelers, I would have stopped watching a few years ago.

This is how I see it as well.. This is reminiscent of Ike Taylor. People use to crap on him but he could take the #1 out of the game entirely.

    Thanks!

As far as mis-communication, we see it frequently when the entire D has four to six guys pointing at each other, barking at each other, and shifting positions right up until the ball is snapped. Has been a trait since Butler took over.

Discipline as a result of lack of pre-season is tough to fix as you said. Standing over a guy taunting him, shoving players after the play is over, hitting QB's late, horse collaring a guy out of bounds, etc. are nothing more than bad culture.

Sad to hear that it's problems and not just scheme making it look like problems. This doesn't bode well when we start to play better teams.

    Thanks for the effort!

Edmunds could cover #1's and #2's throughout the league?

Is there a safety that can cover 1s & 2s in today's league?

In your film study is Terrell improving at being where he is suppose to be? I'm curious to hear from someone that has the tools (physical & mental) & you seem unbiased with your opinions.

    :hmm:

When I said different responsibilities, that also accounts for opposing personnel. If the scheme itself dictates that Terrell needs to cover the oppositions Number 1 or 2 target, that is something that he will have to do. If not, Terrell will have to perform his intended role; Deep Half Shell, Middle Zone, Hook Zone or other forms of coverage.

The only major time Terrell will see Man to Man is when he is up against a Tight End or Slot Receiver.

I am 48 and Edmunds could not cover me 1 on 1 .. The only 1's and 2's he could cover would be as a janitor ...

I don't think Edmunds has the change of direction needed to play Safety... I don't think he has enough speed to close while the ball is the air..I s he big, strong and a good tackler ? Yes ..IMO Edmunds is a LB in todays NFL and not a Safety ..

Maybe a couple, but Edmunds isn't one of them. That was my point, CB and Safety aren't the same position, especially when that safety is Edmunds.

I'm far from an expert. My film study is rewatching the whole game (condensed) then watching the game pass 'coaches film' of the defense.
Edmunds has improved slightly, mainly around the LOS, which was his strong(er) suit anyway. Ball awareness in coverage is still an issue. That's my opinion anyway.

That brings us back to my original point:
"comparing the assignments and responsibilities of the cornerbacks to those of Edmunds really isn't fair."

If the scheme itself dictates that Terrell needs to cover the oppositions Number 1 or 2 target, it's going to be a mismatch.

Which will be placed on Keith Butler. I never said that was the best option.

We have nothing to worry about with Minkah Fitzpatrick. He is doing his job and offenses are trying to avoid him. Once we get to a team with a better QB they will test him and pay the price.

So is anyone still worried about Minkah? He is playing great!
