I was encouraged when I read the headline, but what does Troy mean when he says he's "optimistic as long as Coach Tomlin is optimistic"? Wha???

Either he's ready to go or he's not ready to go. We all know that if Troy is healthy, he's playing! Are Tomlin's semantic gymnastics and ambiguous non-responses starting to rub off on Troy??

Have you people never seen another coach's press conference? They all do it. Norv Turner is so good at the boring non-answer, he could be a politician!

I thought people liked boring non telling answers around here? Anyway, Tomlin's got some cool dialect, that man can speak, even if he doesn't tell you anything :lolol:

You're right in that they all do it to an extent, but Tomlin seems to take it to another level at times with his heavy menu of cliches and catch phrases. The Pittsburgh media gets extremely frustrated with Tomlin and those that have been around for awhile found both Cowher and Noll to be much more forthcoming.

I was going to start a Polamalu thread about his work out routine and whether people think it helped the team or hurt the team in the long run. He certainly does miss his fair share of games nearly every season. Maybe lifting only 20 lbs. with flexible mobile body movements wasn't such a bright idea after all.

I've questioned this myself. Why is he given a pass every offseason to remain in Cali and workout with his own personal workout sensei when the rest of the team is participating in OTAs? Is he really getting the kind of off season conditioning he needs, especially as he gets older and conditioning becomes increasingly important? Troy doesn't strike me as a workout or conditioning warrior and has relied on sheer athletic ability in the past. Conditioning is vital if he plans to prolong his career.

I saw something with his routine in it a few years ago and it looked BRUTAL to me but I'm just a guy sitting on my couch wearing Ninja Turtels pajamas so what do I know?

It's ironic that one of the things people dump on Tomlin for is that he doesn't motivate, yet when he clearly challenges the team to play better by making a statement like that, the players failed miserably but it's Tomlins fault, he doesn't motivate. He gets blamed either way

I've played a lot of sports in my life and I don't really think a coach can motivate the same way another player can. That's just my opinion though. I really think we would benefit from a Joey Porter/Ray Lewis type guy on the team.

Thats different, I can understand that more and how it can make a difference. Overall though, I don't think alot of games are going to be won or lost because of it.

Yes and no. Individual games won't be won or lost because of not having that type of guy on the team, but I truly believe that type of guy can change the culture of a team and can single-handedly change the attitude on the team. We just don't seem to have the same intensity we used to have.

Once Troy gets dinged he is off and on for the rest of the season at least thats been the pattern since he's been here: If he plays in 8 games this year i'll be surprised, you can put a fork in Harrison, looks like age has caught up to him as well. Dont expect Woodley to have a big sack year since Olines dont have to worry about double teaming our right side pass rush and now they can concentrate on Woodley, so after this bye week, the same problems on defense will still be there, no pass rush, and they are even weak on stopping the run all of a sudden: And we already know we have a seive for a secondary so that isnt going to change in one week either. On offense if the Oline gets solidified they might get a moderate running game going again, but they sure havent had one for 3 games, and dont expect mendy to be the second coming because he needs to change his running style to be effective as well, which I doubt he will, so I hate to rain on everyones expectations for this team but my expectations arent much over maybe 8 wins...

Why does Mendy have to change his running style? He's been putting up good numbers for years behind a crappy line.
