I didn't see a thread on this topic yet so I thought I'd start one. Here are the list of the Steelers in the first round of nominees:

    RB Jerome Bettis
    C Jeff Hartings
    LB Kevin Greene
    K Gary Anderson
    Coach Bud Carson
    Coach Bill Cowher
    Coach Buddy Parker
    Art Rooney, Jr.

Who do you think/hope makes it to the final round?

I think and hope that the Bus makes it this year.

I want the Bus in there for sure. I don't think Kevin Greene makes it eventhough he was my favorite lb when I started watching the Steelers.

I would say Bettis has the best chance. Then followed by the Chin.

I would actually be surprised if Cowher gets in on the 1st ballot. The reason is because I think they think he might come back and coach again and maybe they wanna see how he does there before they enshrine him. But regardless his Steeler career is Hall worthy for sure! He was the winningest coach in the NFL during his tenure here.

I will state this once again.

No other Steelers player should be enshrined in the H.O.F. until LC Greenwood gets his bust. Unfortunately, that won't be the case.

Bettis better be going in on this ballot. He should have been in this past year. The NY/Boston bias reared its ugly head again and put in Curtis Martin ahead of the bus. (Don't get me started on that BS.)

I'm pretty sure that Cowher is done as an NFL coach. He has had plenty of terrific opportunities (Denver, Carolina, Washington, Dallas, Cleveland) and didn't show much interest.

    Quite right.

Not wanting to ruffle any feathers, but I don't see Cowher's claim to be the Hall of Fame.

Won more games than any coach during his tenure. Won the Super Bowl. Went to another Super Bowl. How many AFC championship games? 5? That's a pretty dang sweet resume.

Yes, I am with you on that. He is very deserving. Hollywood Bags belongs in the H.O.F. already!

Isn't Mean Joe the only member of the Curtain in the Hall? Dwight White is not. Ernie Holmes is not. L.C. is not. The reason I say Joe is the only one is because there is some debate as to who the REAL Curtain was. Mike Webster said the Curtain was the WHOLE D but some say it was just the LINE itself. I think of it as the whole D but I just didn't wanna start a big riggamaroo over it. There are more members of that D in the Hall that DIDN'T play on the line than did. I think that's a pretty good case for my position in and of itself.

The line was the meat of it but the secondary was very good too, they had Blount and Shell roaming around back there and back then, you were allowed to hit and those guys could HIT!

Indeed, there are two definitions of The Steel Curtain.

A couple of things to consider about those 70s teams and the Hall:

    1. On a team known for its defense, there are more HOF members from the offense (5) than defense (4).

    2. The Minnesota Vikings, who lost four Super Bowls, have THREE defensive players in the HOF (Page, Eller, Krause) and there is a movement to get Jim Marshall in, too. Just think about that for a moment. Half of the Vikings' front four are in, a front four that got blown up in SBs VIII, IX, and XI. It's an absolute joke that Greenwood is not in, and if Marshall makes it in ahead of him, I'll have to head to Canton and make sure the place is washed down with a golden shower.

Yeah! I remember on one of the America's Game specials that they did Joe Greene talked about how hard Donnie Shell could hit. They showed him DRILLING Earl Campbell on a MNF game and Mean Joe said something like "I've never wanted to see a guy hurt but THAT night I didn't mind seeing that guy leave the field." As far as Mel Blount, when they CHANGE THE RULES because of you that's all you need to know!

    Interesting points raised, 12to88.

Sometimes, I feel certain players are in the hall representing more than their own performances. For me personally, the steel curtain was the d-line, and Joe Greene being the anchor represents that line in the HOF. But that's from my view that they won't put the whole of that D into the hall. I had that view without considering your point about the Vikings D, which actually changes my mind on it considerably.

What the discussion really shows is that the criteria for HOF entry isn't as clear cut or consistent as it might be.... to state the obvious, I guess.

Im with BFT....The Curtain was all 11!!

If I remember correctly we also had 3 pretty good LBs between the line and the secondary.

One player, one coach, and one owner would be great. This has to be bettis year. Crowther may get beat out by parcell and Mr Rooney might get beat out by Sabol. You would think that l C Greenwood would get in this year.

He's not 'eligible' now by the normal path. That's why he's not on the list of 2013 HOF nominees.

He can still get in if he's nominated by whatever they call the 'Old Timers' committee, and get in the same way that Dick LeBeau got in couple of years ago.
