After a 1-2 start where we've looked like anything but serious contenders, we Steeler fans have a lot to be disappointed about. We can talk about how certain units of our team (the linebackers, offensive line, etc.) have underperformed but who has been the most disappointing single player so far this year? For me it has to be Jonathan Dwyer. I had really hoped that he would assert himself as a high quality alternative to Mendenhall. This is his golden opportunity and he's blown it so far. I think his toe may be bothering him more than we know and our offensive line is, well, offensive. But the fact is opportunity is a rare visitor indeed and he's already knocked on the door and is pulling out of Dwyer's driveway thinking no one was home as we speak ( or as I type). I thought we had a hidden gem in Dwyer but apparently not.

Which Steeler player has been your biggest disappointment so far?

Mundy...Part his fault and mostly others.....He can not play FS and he is a Average SS at best...So even though I knew he could not play above the line Football I am still upset that I have to watch him try...

Lawrence Timmons. I gave the injured players a pass because, hey, **** happens (and we are OLD on defense). Timmons looks fat and slow. He is one of our play makers on D and he has yet to make ANY significant play this year. This was supposed to be a big year for him. Maybe he will get his chances once we get our other stars back...

So far, the most consistent, explosive member of our D has been...Larry Foote??

How about Willie Colon.....he is up to his usually "false start" self..... They were saying how great he was going to be, Gilbert said he was going to be the best LG in the league this year... I'm not seein it.

You right Somathus...Foote is the only guy playing with some passion out there except for maybe Ike.

Probably Isaac Redman for me. I can maybe give him a pass because he might be injured. But if what we are seeing is the true Redman I'm sorely disappointed. I know that we need a better (MUCH better actually) line but he's done NOTHING. So I've gotta say Redman.

My understanding would be that the biggest dissapointment is the one from which the difference between what we expected from him and what he has brought to the table is bigger.

I see 3 groups here, not based on performance but in over/under my expectation level before game 1:

Over expectations: Roethlisberger (improved), Miller (more involved), Foote (not excellent, but far better than expected), Clark (impact player)
At expectation level: A Brown, Wallace, Sanders (we already knew what we had on young money crew), Pouncey, Starks, Gilbert, Colon, Foster (sorry, didn't expected much from them really), Suisham (not really tested yet), Butler (highs & lows), Hampton (aging), Heyward (we knew he's not at star level yet), Taylor
Under expectations: Hood, Carter - Worilds, Keisel, Lewis - Allen, Mundy
Far below expectations: Redman, Timmons - Woodley, Polamalu, Harrison. Really, someone thought they would be here before the start of the season?

Pick anyone of the far below level...

Would have to be David Decastro and Sean Spence. With such a great draft that made nearly everybody happy to lose your number 1 pick and number 3 pick was very disappointing. From that point on you know the season is going to be tough

Moonface - you have a point, though we can't blame them for being injured. Still, I am disappointed that Decastro isn't out there on the line. Not disappointed with him, exactly, but just disappointed.

There's a difference here between players you are disappointed in, and players who have just flat out sucked. I never expected Mundy to be great. I never expected Colon to sit into the new position straigthaway. Never expected Rainey to be a gamechanger from day one.

Most disappointing? Probably Cotchery, to be honest.

He never will be if we only have him on kickoff returns. He only gets like one chance per game, if that. And you can see him getting so frustrated that he's taking it out from like 9 yards deep when he should be kneeling. Maybe later in the year when the kicks are shorter he'll do something, but in the meantime he needs to be put in on punts if we want him to do anything.

Here's a question though: if we don't yet trust him to return punts and have AB back there, how come Rainey isn't on the LOS trying to block the punts? Didn't he set records doing that in college? I've seen him try a couple times on field goals, but that's really unlikely. For punts all he needs to do is fake the blocker out of his shoes and use his speed. Give him enough chances and he should be able to do that since he's apparently so good at it. Is it because after he doesn't block the punt, he won't be a good enough blocker? That's a load if you ask me. When the other team is punting, he should be on the field somewhere.

My vote for biggest disappointment (besides injured players) would have to be Mundy. I'd say Redman or Dwyer, but they really haven't had much to work with, so it's really hard to say with them at this point. I never thought Mundy was starting material, but I've been on record as calling him a good backup, at least at SS. I sort of had an automatic love-fest with him for awhile simply because he's the guy that finally knocked Tyrone Carter off the team. And while he's always been better than Carter in the past, he sure hasn't looked like it this year.

Yeah I always get the feeling that Rainey is frustrated too. I really can't blame him for his lack of special teams production since the league has basically destroyed that whole phase of the game. Most of the time he's either watching it sail in to the stands or catching it 9 & 1/2 yards deep in the end zone. I was also excited to see what Rainey could do and I would say the most disappointing play I've seen with him was when he had a blocker out front (dwyer I think) and he ran in to him and dropped the pass. I actually thought that play was cool where Ben faked to AB and put the ball behind his back with the left hand to Rainey. I can't remember what happened that caused that play not to work. I figured Haley would try to used Rainey like Dexter McCluster but so far they just can't get anything going with him. But if you really think about it he was JUST a 5th rounder so it's kinda hard to be TOO disappointed. I think it's just the double edged sword of being a Steelers fan to expect EVERY guy we draft to be in the Hall of Fame when it's all said and done. LOL.

Yep. I can't be disappointed in Rainey given the chances he's had.

But I think i expected more from Cotchery given the standard he is already at and what he has to offer based on last season. Just figured we'd see a little more of him. I'm not full on hating on him, but I guess my point was that 'disapponting' is a very different question to who is performing badly.
