He wasn’t named as one of the four protected players. I don’t understand why he had to terminate his deal either.

 

Probably has to do with the fact that he would, any other year, not be eligible for PS. They changed the rules a lot regarding the PS to make up for the lack of pre-season, and maybe he's considered a "veteran" player, he has to terminate to become immedeatly eligible.

I know that our starting Defense is pretty much set. Given that, I would like to see what the rookie Nose Tackle that we drafted out of Nebraska offers; Carlos Davis. I am not sure where he would fit in right now. He is a little more "stout" than Alualu. And in all honesty, Alualu is doing a terrific job right now. Given that, I would not mind to see Davis spell him for a breather or two for a one-game basis to see what he has. No time like the present to get the rookies involved and quickly.

CBA prohibits being under contract with two teams at the same time. I just think normally it just gets reported as signing with another team

10. TERMINATION BY PLAYER. Player may terminate this contract to sign an
NFL Player Contract with another NFL club, except that Player may not sign an NFL
Player Contract with Club’s next opponent later than 4:00 p.m., New York time, on the
sixth day preceding the game (except in bye-weeks, when the prohibition commences on
the tenth day preceding the game). Player may not terminate this contract in order to sign
a contract with another club to serve as a Practice Squad Player.
