This mess has got to stop.We the people have the power to stop this. After watching last nights game,I thought it was a shame and a disgrace. This is IMHO, the best sport in the world, played by athelets who put their careers and lives on the line with every snap of the ball, If owner and the leauge office(rg},still have to pay for player saiaries and are not making the 100 of millions from stadiums being filled and from us watching this embarrisment they would come around I believe. Football season is my favorite time of the year,I love STEELER football, especially at the stadium, but if it would help the powers that be (rg),come to their senses,I would be willing to catch the scores and highlights on espn.I know it would be a lot to ask for fans in the city, but what else can we do. iF YOU GO TO THE GAME,NO HOT DOGS,NO SOUVEINERS NO NOTHING,I know thats a double negative, but you get what I mean. It may be time for some drastic measures.WHAT DO YOU THINK?

I think season ticket holders who have to pay and go watch this crap should file a class action suit against the NFL and get their money for these games, they are a joke.

The integrity of the game is growing more suspect with each passing week. That is why there is not an agreement yet. The officials know their value. They know how hard it is to officiate the game. They know they have leverage like they never had before. The league also knows that any damage to the integrity of the NFL works against what they have worked so hard to protect but they don't want to cave to the demands of the officials.

With that said, there are blown calls every week - no matter who is officiating games. If the temporary officials stay working all year, by this time next year, they could very well be better than the "old" officials. They could also just as easily be the same - or worse. Pro football is the most difficult pro sport to officiate. Everyone is stronger, faster and more capable every year. There needs to be IMO reform with NFL officiating. It's long overdue.

It's a toss-up as to how this will unfold but either way, boycotting won't do anything. Advertisers pulling advertising will - but that won't happen on a mass scale if at all.

    This is funny.

Avoiding the NFL, suing the NFL..., those things would hurt the situation, not help. Duh.

If 'we' really want to help. 'we' could fund the refs' pension, that is the major sticking point in negotiations.
So, what are yinz willing to pitch in?

question, how would it hurt? I'm not talking about suing the nfl,but I do say that if the nfl start to loose money from gate receipts, consessions and the like, could possibly cause the nfl to look at the situations djfferently.

The NFL could tell the ref's union, 'well, we're making less, therefore, less to offer you'.
Not enough people would stop watching/buying to make a difference anyway.
Now, if the NFL raised the price of everything they could afford to offer the refs more.
How much more are we willing to pay?
Most common folk could barely dream of going to 1 game every year, or two.

The refs need to come down on their pension demands, or be enticed to come down.
This may take a while to settle.
Regular refs make mistakes and we live with it.
The NFL is trying to find out what our tolerance level is for the replacements mistakes.

No one HAS to go to the games so I'm not sure how a class action lawsuit would fly.

Season ticket holders paid for their tickets before the refs were locked out,so they did not know about the replacement refs

Suppose Tom Brady was traded right before the regular season started. Could season ticket holders file a class action lawsuit because the expected to see him play?

Season ticket holders can probably sell their tickets for a profit, especially Packers fans.

That is true but we are talking about players... the ones people go to see play the game, not referees.

    Okay, here's the deal...

Over the last several years many NFL fans have complained about several issues with the league... rules, inconsistencies, refs (before the replacements), goodell...

If change is what we want, then we have to collectively (as NFL fans of all 32 teams) tell the NFL that we no longer accept the product, as presented.

That means we have to be willing to give up the NFL.

    Possible. Yes.

    Probable. No.

I suspect most people who watch the NFL do so for the same reason those same people watch reality T.V.: spectacle.

And last night's controversy has provided just that. A Canadian woman sent an e-mail to Jim Rome saying she watches hockey, but she will be tuning into the NFL to watch the comedy that is the replacement referees.

It appears more likely that the NFL will make even more money, and gain an even greater viewership, in light of the dismay of the current fans.

You see, the NFL is comprised of business-people who are not so shackled by emotional attachment to the sport that they cannot make savvy business decisions. And they, knowing their fan base is extremely emotionally attached to the sport, and, therefore, much less likely to make a rational purchasing decisions, will do exactly WTF they want to do. And they will not fear retaliation from their customers.

    The end.

If you feel that strongly about it, organize a CA lawsuit. I'm willing to bet it goes absolutely nowhere.

i liked the call last night. i thought he got it right.

i was listening to chris carter on one show and he said when he played with the regular refs, such and such a ref would take control of the game early and tell him i saw you push off on that last one chris, i'm gonna call it next time. WHAT?????????????????????????????????? if he saw it it should have been called the first time. there is no contact after 5 yds. either, then don't touch the guy after 5 yds. and complain about it. these guys seem to be calling it by the letter of the law and these prima donna players have gotten away with so much they can't look as good as they think they should playing by the written rule. it's like the NBA when a player takes 4 steps and traveling isn't called. any normal ref would call that. why have the rules if the refs are only going to call them in certain situations even when they see they are being broken. how is this fair to the other team?

    Lighten up Frances.

If you hate the current game, stop wathcing, stop buying tickets from scalpers, stop buying gear, that's your choice. Do what you like.

But, all I heard last year was how the refs stunk, how they never called holding on OL facing #92, how they pussifed, how the zebras had it in for the B&G.

Well, we're a year older and the story is the same.

If you want to take action in support of the regular refs, when in general you wouldn't take support for the regular players should they hold out or be on strike. Go ahead.

To me the referreing is less decisive, but not worse than before. And if the NFL would fine the hell out of coaches constantly bitching about the replacements by Novemeber 1, you wouldn't be able to tell the different.

This gets to the root of the problem. IMHO...
I may complain, and *****, and moan, `till I`m blue in the face... :(
But, the botom line is, I am still gonna tune in and watch the games... And the league knows it... :frustrated:
We have basically created a monster, that we cannot stop, unless we just ignore the monster.
Unfortunately, as a born and bred Steeler fan, it is damn near impossible for me to ignore the monster...
I`m like an addict that has to get my fix... And the league, knows, that it has millions of people like me, hooked on it`s product...
They can cut it, dilute it, water it down, to where it is a shadow of what it was, and we will STILL be watching in numbers impossible for the advertisers to ignore...
It sucks. But I have no solution.
I have tried to become less emotionally involved, over the years, as friends have pointed out, that this is just a game, played, by millionaires who all hang out together when they aren`t trying to dismember each other, on the field...
And, I don`t take the losses quite as personally, anymore, or let it put me in a bad mood for days afterward, but...
I DO still tend to neglect things that are more important in life, just to make sure I can catch the game on Sunday, or whenever we play.
In general, I believe this would be a better society, if we could all just turn the tv off, and get involved with our communities, and things that really matter.
With the exception of sports, I hardly watch any tv anymore... But I still seem to find plenty of time for the internet...
    LOL...
I just don`t believe the NFL has any fear of losing their fanbase, like Nascar has had to deal with. And unfortunately, they are probably right.
There may come a time down the road, if they continue to "ruin" this sport, like they have been, that i will lose interest in it... But it`s gonna take a hell of a lot, for them to make it so bad, that it overcomes a lifetime, of devotion to it...
And I`m pretty sure they know that I am just one of MANY, MANY, MANY, Millions of fans that they can push pretty far, before we finally walk away.
