Bart Scott doesn't think Polamalu is on the same level as Ed Reed

Ed Reed was an outstanding safety. One of the best ever.

But Troy was like having both an extra LB, AND DB on the field... at the same time.

It's like comparing Deion Sanders to Rod Woodson or Mel Blount. Deion is arguably the best cover corner the NFL ever saw. I'd still take Rod or Mel over him. They were "complete packages."

Edit: not saying Ed Reed was a one trick pony. Just showing how sometimes it's an apples and oranges comparison.

I heard Bart on ESPN Radio this morning, he must have gotten a new job with ESPN recently, this was probably his attempt to say something controversial to get his name out there.

Or, maybe he has taken one too many blows to the head.

Ed reed was great. One of the best free safeties out there but if you’re measuring a better football player or athlete? Prime Polamalu wins hands down. He was spectacular and a marvel to look at. Even Steelers haters loved him

Polamalu is in the phenom category to me.

    lawrence Taylor
    Reggie White
    Joe greene
    Joe Montana
    Ronnie Lott
    Barry sanders
    etc

those are generational talent. Not the dime a dozen elites you see now

edit: phenom when he was prime. Career cut too short from injuries

Give him time. Fitzpatrick was better last year than Reed was in his second season. Reed was already making big plays, but he was also getting caught out of position and giving up big plays far too often his first couple of season.

Nobody could match the explosiveness of Polamalu in his prime. He had an extra gear that Adams doesn't have.

Scott made a thoughtless throwaway comment. Nothing to get overexcited about. His opinion doesn’t bother me in the slightest and tbh I doubt he believes what he is saying. He is probably loving the attention though.

Reed and Polamalu are both HOF players, different styles on the field but both brilliant in their own way. I would struggle to pick one over the other, and there really isn’t any need to.

Ravens would have traded Reed for Polamalu. :hehehe:

Exactly. Polamalu is special. Also very clutch. When you needed a big play he always came through. 2010 Super Bowl unfortunately both Troy and Ben lost their magic lol

What? Reed had 16 pass deflections and 7 picks his 2nd year.

    Hey IZONUFOTO.

This may be my shortest post ever. Given that and responding to you: "I love it". Great post. Should definitely be Top-Ten for this Board.

Bit off topic: yesterday I got hooked up with an avid Raven fan on golf course. Didn't want to bring up sports but my damn hat gave me away. It was three hours of crying about how his lovers took the big apple in the playoffs. We both agreed it's been great having the Bengals and browns in our division.

Go back and watch game footage. He was also out of position and getting beat for big plays. I'm sorry you haven't learned the lesson I learned from watching Sam Washington play cornerback for the Steelers in 1984. The guy intercepted six passes, but he was not a good cornerback. Even then 12-year-old me could see past the few big plays he made to notice how consistently he was getting beat.

Both players were amazing at their respective positives. Just because they were both a safety doesn't mean they were the same
