“To mention Troy Polamalu in the same breath as Ed Reed? To me, it’s disrespectful.” - Bart Scott

He's right. It's disrespectful to Troy to mention them in the same breath. I didn't know Bart was such a Troy P. fan!

Both players were amazing. I've never seen a player do the things that Troy could do on the field. Similar to Barry Sanders in that regard. We will probably see another Reed type of player before we see another Polamalu type of player.

Right we could see Minkah be as rangy and impactful as Reed was. We wouldnt be surprised. FS to FS

Jamal Adams is already considered the best SS typs in the game now but if he played like Polamalu every NFL fan would be surprised.

I'd have more respect for that observation if it was coming from, say, Ronnie Lott. What does anyone expect Bart Scott to say? Of course he's going to have his former teammates' back.

If you judge a player only by stats then yes, Reed was the better player. This being said, you can't really judge a player by stats alone.

Hines Ward ear-holed Bart Scott once (or twice, or more), and Bart never got over it.

Reed was good in a different way, J. Ham like. Troy was the show & didn't disappoint.

Troy never would of gotten jacked up by Hines Ward.

Ed Reed got knocked into next week by Hines.

Anyway both are great HOF players.
Reed was a natural quick fast athlete, great ball hawk.
Troy total had instinct, knew wear to be, and was the ultimate clutch player, would you needed a play to win. Troy P produced it.

The only thing you can knock Troy on is injury history he was often hurt, but with his body size and the way he played you could see why he got hurt often.
But when Troy was healthy he was the best player on the defense and it wasn't close.

I tend to agree. Minkah plays lighter than Reed did. Hines lighting him up aside, Reed was a tough guy. He could lay the lumber, and liked doing it. Minkah isn't that type of player. His strengths are being in position and instincts. Reed was far more physical. That doesn't really make one "better" than the other. They're just different. Troy, on the other hand, was the complete package. He could do what each of Reed and Fitz could do, and do it better. If he had stayed healthy, his numbers would make Reed his *****.

I think reed was better in coverage especially playing deep middle while troy was better at making plays in the box and around the line of scrimmage. Both played differently and both could do what the other does. but they both had their strong and weak points between the 2. Both were two of the best to ever play.
