What a joke that is. I went to the ESPN stat sheet online today just to see how bad our defense is doing statistically, and it has the Steelers as the number 7th ranked defense in the league based on yards allowed.

I am thinking to myself that is such BS....they way they have played they should be ranked #32.

Ranking defenses by yards allowed is ridiculous.

It would be interesting (at least for me) to see the time they were on the field calculated into this statistic. Another statistic I would like to see is, how many of the opposing drives end with a score, td, punt or turnover.

I don't know whether that would say more about the quality of their play, but who cares, I like numbers ;)

Wow, it's definitely interesting (loots of numbers :)). I don't understand it yet (have to read the glossary first) but the 3rd ranked offense and 27th ranked defense sounds about right to me.

Just another example of how idiotic it is to put all faith in stats, people in love with stats and see nothing else have one dimensional thinking. This defense is garbage right now. Even a member of the team said that our ranking last year was bs, he said they weren't very good last year either.

The only defensive stat that means anything is points allowed, all the rest of that garbage is meaningless, this defense gave up 34 points to the faders and we lost, they gave up 30 points to denver and we lost, being ranked on a scale that only considers yards given up is ridiculous, a defense can give up a load of yards between the 20s and then keep a team out of the endzone, and thats where it counts, the patriots defense was ranked 31 last year and went to the superbowl, so, points allowed is the mark of a solid defense, not how many yards they give up....

They also ranked the Raiders as the WORST team in the NFL and we all see how that turned out. Numbers are great but they dont always show real world out comes.

Close but I would take it one step further: Points allowed per minute. I bet we would be #32 in that regard. I remember 2 years ago Polamalu saying that this defense wasn't built for long drives and that quick scoring drives from the steelers offense makes it harder on the defense. Well, that theory has been quickly flipped on it's head.

In other news big ben is killing it in stats. If he keeps this up he could be the mvp this year.

We only gave up 10 points to the Jets. There is no way we would be #32.

It appears that this team is different on D at home than on the road to me. Granted you would think that has something to do with who they played, but it could just be the team gets more vanilla on the road and suffers because of it.

I can totally 1up this. I saw the Fantasy Rankings on NFL Network and apparently they were showing the top 20 tight ends and there was NO HEATH!!! I don't play fantasy but I would HAVE to think that Heath would be higher than that?! Right? Did I see that right?

We're also #5 defending the pass.

    Yardage stats are junk.
