Steelers update season ticket holders on '20 season

Steelers season ticket holders received an email from the team on Wednesday, which provided some general updates for the upcoming season, as well as some options they have as the COVID-19 pandemic continues.

In the email, the Steelers reiterated that the number one concern continues to be the safety and well-being of players, coaches, staff and fans before all decisions are finalized.

As the NFL discusses the preseason schedule, with reducing the number of games being an option, the email noted that if that does occur, those who have purchased tickets will receive a refund for any games that are canceled.

The team is currently working with both the NFL and public health officials on how fans can attend games in a safe manner. The email stated that the Steelers goal 'is to have fans at Heinz Field this season. We anticipate that we will be working with a reduced capacity scenario and that fans will be required to wear masks.' The Steelers will be providing more information on these plans to season ticket holders as they are finalized.

Season ticket holders were also made aware that the team is providing the option to apply for a full refund for the 2020 season, while not losing their ability to renew their season ticket location for the 2021 season or any associated seat license. Season ticket holders can apply for the refund online via a link provided in the email.

Season tickets are normally sent out in late July, but season ticket holders were advised that delivery of tickets will operate differently this season 'as we need to employ a digital ticketing solution to allow for flexibility.' Additional details will be provided to all season ticket holders as soon as they are available.

"Our goal is to still have fans at Heinz Field this year with the understanding that social distancing, as well as all fans being required to wear masks, will play a role in the capacity to ensure a safe atmosphere," said Steelers spokesman Burt Lauten in a statement. "We will continue to work with the NFL and public health officials to finalize plans for fans to attend our home games.

"We are communicating with our season ticket holders to make them aware of the digital ticketing process we will employ this season at Heinz Field for a more flexible solution as we prepare for potential reduced capacity. We will continue the process of allowing our fans to opt out of their 2020 season tickets if they feel they are uniquely affected by the current situation."

I got a lengthy e-mail from Steelers ticket office basically stating everything in the above article.

If I am allowed to be there I will be there. If I have to follow rules such as wearing a mask my family will do it.

If they limit the people I'm not sure what criteria will be decided to choose who is allowed to go and who isn't.

Even if it's like 20-25,000 fans, not sure how you choose etc.

Also digital tickets only it seems and no hard tickets.

Man I hate the thought of wearing a mask for 3 hours, or more. But I’m going if I can.

I wore a mask all week for 8-10 hours a day while retrofitting a house for a man soon to be in a wheelchair. It was 90+ degrees every day this week, no AC in the house. I forgot I had it on most the time, except when I went to my cooler for a drink of water. It's not that big of a deal.

They are allowing season ticket holders to opt out this year. I expect a lot will. That in itself may solve part of the problem. They may still have to spread people around from their regular seats.

I would expect any company who owns tickets will opt out. Purely out of liability.

As a season ticket holder there is a few times I wish fans had muzzles on instead of masks. Like the stupid drunk idiot who yells to run the flea flicker every 4 or 5 plays.

Ah yes, I somewhat remember him. Looks like he is about to save ARE's bacon picking up a CB coming in to blast him.

I didn't know that he was coaching under Arians last year as a receiver coach. Antwaan was the man in college, He did Lamar before Lamar did Lamar.

Eagles announced the will not let fans attend home games in 2020.

Not sure if the Steelers will change their minds or not.

I elected to turn my tickets in this year and have the money directed to next year. First season I will miss in 51 years.

    That is an impressive streak!

I think before it's all said done there won't be any fans in the stands.

I'm still willing to go. But if I was an older person I wouldn't risk it.

More so than me, my wife didn’t want to go. And for 35 of those years she’s been my beer drinking Steeler rooting buddy. I’d rather watch the game on the porch with her than go without her.

Plus, there are already too many idiots at the games. I don’t need some sick SOB who is too dumb to wear a mask properly making me sick when I go recycle beer. It’s bad enough they can’t hit the urinal.

If things don't turn around I don't think there will be any fans allowed. Possibly a cancelled season even if they give it a go.
