If you didn't see Ziggy Hood get injured yesterday, or just want to take another look at it, here it is.

Wow, cheap as they come. And wtf was the announcer talking about "his leg got caught underneath..." No, his knee got crushed by a dirty Raider, you freaking blind man.

I bet it's a retaliation to Mundy's hit on DHB. Raiders are know for that kind of stuff. Remember George Atkinson used to hit Swann because Blount used to toy with clifford branch.

I never heard anything about if he is hurt or not. What is the diagnosis?

Yeah, I raised an eyebrow at that too. That's one way of putting it I guess. :glare:
No word. In the post game presser Coach T mentioned him, but gave no details. There's no press conference this week, so it may be a while before we hear anything.

This was right in front of the Ref (#44) then he starts writing something down on his note pad.

I wonder exactly what he wrote down?

    I couldn't call a penalty because ...........
    A) It's a Steelers player
    B) This is Oakland and those fans are dressed like Barbarians
    C) Oh' yea. The wife wants me to pick up milk and butter on the way home.
    D) Roger told me not to.

A and D. :D In all seriousness, he was likely just keeping track of timeouts. That's what's typically done anyway.

I'm not sure how many think it should have been flagged, but it wasn't technically illegal. I know that's not going to be popular, but as I said last night, it was within the rules.

Wow... I didn't pick up on this hit at all when originally watching the game. That's as dirty as it can get I think. Waaaaay worse than most head shots. At a MINIMUM it should have been an illegal chop block & 15 yard penalty. I know Janikowski has a big leg and all, but that play could have put them out of FG range.

    I'm stunned.

I hear people on this board moan and whine about the announcers not liking the Steelers. Most of the time, I think it's just the Yinzer glasses. But in this case, I'm jumping on. These announcers were very anti Steeler / pro Oakland.

If the WR had been Mike Wallace or Antonio Brown rather than Heyward Bey and the DB had been in Silver n' Black rather than Ryan Mundy, this board would be complaining much more loadly about a different unpenalized 'cheap' shot. But it wasn't, so they're not.

So what? What the hell does that have to do with this thread and an obvious dirty play by a Raider. I hate devils advocate crap, do people feel like they are bigger then other when they play that card? Well guess what, Mundys hit was bad and he will get fined for it. *Gasp* a Steeler fan just agreed it was a bad shot, guess that blows your comment to hell.

Alright, I caved and took a peek at the board, even though I want to stay away. I'll just comment on one.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't this a legal move? Don't get me wrong, it's filthy dirty. But it's the same filthy dirty loophole the Ravens exploited on Hampton last year. I thought the rule was, if a defensive lineman is engaged with a blocker, he can legally have his legs chopped off with a hatchet so long as that player lined up only one spot away from the blocker he's engaged in. Ziggy is engaged with the guard, and so the tackle or center would be allowed to do whatever they feel like to his legs. It would only be a penalty if the tight end or other guard tried to do it.

Don't ask me if it makes sense. It doesn't. The two players that are allowed to do it are the only ones that really have the opportunity to do it. I don't get it at all, but that's what I heard when we all flipped out about Baltimore last year. It's a filthy play, but it's still legal until they close that loophole. And until Ziggy Hood and Casey Hampton start throwing touchdown passes, I think that loophole will stay wide open.

Actually, never mind. I'm not worried. After all, you're not allowed to tackle hard anymore. So it would be downright hypocritical to allow someone like Willie Smith to say, "Look! An ACL! I got it!!" And then dive on it like a dog on a laser pointer. As concerned as Roger Goodell is with player safety, I'm sure he'll do something about this.

In my anger over the loss... I had completley forgotten about this.
Kinda fits with my longstanding philosophy of " Do whatever you can within the rules", to hurt the opponent...
But, It sure makes a joke outta that "player safety" argument, the league likes to trumpet...
I still thought it was dirty, when Ramon Foster dived at a player`s knee from behind, after the play was over, in a pre-season game, last year, even if that was the only time he did it...
I have no problem with hard hits, or even "pushing the rules", while a play is going on... But that was just WRONG...
Aiming at a knee, from behind, after the play is over, is just cowardly, classless, bush league CRAP, that I thought the Rooney`s wouldn`t stand for. I expected him to be cut after that...
As for the Raiders retaliating for the hit, on Heyward-Bey...
I really can`t blame them for that.
Especially when they did it within the framework of the B.S. rules that are in place, now...
I would expect us to do the same, or even go outside the rules a bit, as long as they hit a player who was upright, and facing them...
Honestly, there were a couple of times when Ben got punched int the face, that I expected to see a bit of retaliation, by our D, but, didn`t...

Yes, Snack is right, it is a legal play.... which sickens me. Diving at the back of a player's knee when he has his back turned and is clearly engaged. Perhaps Roger should be made to watch this video and ask him "How safe is this for the players?".

Yes it was legal and totally thought out. The guy never took his eyes off of him even when he got up and walked away. He knew he was going to do it the whole way.

You used to see this a lot with the Walsh teams where they cut blocked a lot and there would be fights after the whistle. Legal then and now but still cheap.

Is there any word on Ziggy on how much time he will miss or is he done for the year? I assumed he probably blew his ACL after watching that hit on Sunday but have not heard anything official.
