Obviously, Tomlin has lost confidence in our defense, when he went on the 4th down play on their last drive. Very sad that it has come to this. I'm wondering if Tomlin is looking at Dick LeBeaue or our defensive players. I was shock to see our DBs playing zone on their winning drive. Should be tight coverage.

He hasn't lost confidence in them. He knew they needed time.

I do believe Troy needs to go though. He is great when he is in but you can't count on him being in any game. If he could stay healthy I would say keep him

While it was risky...it made sense. Tomlin said after the game he planned to go for it the whole time...saying they hadnt stopped them in the second half and it was one yard if you cant get that you deserve to loose.

Plus had they not got it...they might have still had 1 more chance with the ball to tie/win.

    :amen:

The one unforgivable sin for this Steeler fan at least is fielding a BAD defense. No excuses. They stunk out loud.

The question now seems to be:
How do you feel more comfortable during the last 2 minutes of a game:

    A) protecting a lead or
    B) trying to score a FG?

If I remember correctly, a similar thing happened during the Cardinals Superbowl where our defense was unable to stop them. Tomlin decided to go for an onside kick so either the Steelers got the ball back or the cardinals could score very quickly (which they did). We won that game so I guess you have to appreciate Tomlin for making tough calls and not playing it "safe" all the time.

    mex,

You've got the wrong game. You're thinking of the Green Bay game in '09. After failing to stop Green Bay virtually the entire game, Tomlin decided to try a suprise onside kick with just over 4 minutes remaining, figuring that, because of the shorter field, the Steelers would get the ball back with some time on the clock if the onside kick failed. If they'd have kicked it deep, Green Bay would have just milked the clock and finished the game the same way the Raiders did today.

Really ? I think you have to go all the way back to the early part of last year to find a game where he really made a difference. I hate to say it but I agree. His time has come and gone.

Look at the NFL boys and girls. Defense has been nominalised. You turn it over or punt (NE), you lose. We can't fix our D as the rules don't allow us to.

Sorry but that's just an excuse. Last I checked the rule changes haven't been a detractor to stopping the run which is something our D has been piss poor at so far this year. A Steeler D that can't stop the run ?? What is this world coming to :frustrated:

Tomlin made the right move. They weren't stopping jack and you have to do what gives you the best shot to win.

right now if the defense keep playing like this i would go for on every 4th down , every conversion is a plus ,and a t least we will get the ball back sooner .
anyway with the nfl going in this direction (shoot out ) i think punting is a bad choice
