Knew they would be looking out OLB...but I kind of wanted Adam Trautman.

Highsmith is a pure pass rusher with 14 sacks last year. Good speed, good size but played at a smaller school.

Not much ammo this year, but remember we already have a top 5 pick imo in Minkah....Minkah, Claypool, Highsmith so far looks really good

Project/gamble, but the sky's the limit. I like him personally because he's a Wilmington NC kid.

I watched highlights. He looks instinctful and quick. Not the "name, sexy" pick but that's our Steelers. Won't know until they hit the field, that's why I never get pumped for a draft.

I don't see this as much of a reach. Very similar circumstances as when we drafted Hargrave. Small school kid at a position of need who had big numbers. Hargrave did work oit. Let's hope Highsmith does too.

Gonna be a bunch of hungry dogs in Adeniyi, Skipper and Highsmith to prove themselves for 2021.

Love love love the pick not sure how much they are going to let him play or just let him learn but this kid has star written all over him. I loved what MT says about him:

“We’ve got three Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks in the (AFC) North,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said. "And we need guys to hunt them down.”

    Some other quotes:

Clemson LT Jackson Carman unprompted on DL Alex Highsmith, Sept. 24 (Matt Connolly, The State):
“He was a dude. I’ve been playing football for 12 years and he’s by far the fastest off the ball I’ve ever gone against. Ever.”

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney prior to Sept. 21 contest vs. Charlotte:
“He’s on all the ‘great player’ lists. I kept watching him and going, ‘Holy cow.’ He looks like Xavier Thomas. He’s physical, fast, disruptive. He’s causing sacks and tips. Really, really good football player. That No. 5 could play for anybody in the country.”

I have said this class was deep at OLB and we got one with our 2nd pick I am super happy. Now I hope he grows and lives up to all they hype.............welcome Alex!

I disagree you really don't know where a guy is. I mean look ate Weaver many had him a early 2nd rounder some a first, Robinson an early 2nd, Biadasz is another. Then you look at guys that were drafted Arnette, Reagor, Aiyuk, Wilson, Igbinoghene and CEH all went in the first when many didn't have them there.

I get what you are saying and I agree we have had issues before (TE) but we are talking 3rd round and at the very end. Hard to say imo this is a reach.........

Hopefully, your question gets at least a similar response from Mr. Highsmith
as was received from Mr. Greene, another small college player..

i seen him in person when they played tennessee. He was the best player on the field. If he played at a power 5 school, he is a first rd pick. i have no doubt. I didnt even realize he was still there.

I am a homer but so far one of the steals of the draft

I know everybody looks good in a highlight tape, but one thing that stands out to me with Highsmith once he gets his mitts on you, you go down, and down quick, good tackler.

This is a guy you need to get after younger mobile QB’s in the AFC North.

People forget teams spend a year if not more watching players. They watch live games, tape, interview the coaches, teammates, family members etc. the analysts spend hours. Players have moved up or down boards long before the analysts catch on.

Once you get outside of the top 100 picks "reaches" become relative. At that point you're looking at developmental guys who you think can fit your scheme.
