    Postgame Defensive Complaint Thread

What, if any adjustments can be made to stiffen this defense up? The d line is getting manhandled! The corners don't know what no contact after five yards means? Forget mediocrity they flat out suck! Please do not bring up Troy or james everyone in uniform has been drafted or signed, being paid by the steelers. They are also being coached by our coaches!!!! Thoughts?

Harrison and Polumalu will never stay healthy long enough to make a real impact. The secondary has been ignored by management and it's really time to start looking for a Lebeau replacement. He's a legend, HOFer, etc... but this defense is awful and it's on him.

Our defense cost us that game. We're finishing up the rebuild on offense, now we get to rebuild the defense. Seriously what long term impact players do we have on D right now? Harrison, Troy, Big Snack, Ike, Clark and Kiesel are all on the back end of their careers and all the replacements are mediocre at best.

If a mediocre defense showed up we would have won the game.

If 2 players are out on the defense, 1 from the secondary and one from the front 7 and the defense falls apart, then they deserve to lose. The defense has been bad in the secondary for years but the front is now just as bad. Ziggy Hood is a bust, cut him next season and draft someone in hope of getting a better player. Keenan Lewis, he also hasn't gotten any better, so lick the wounds and hope they learn to stop someone or hope the offense gets better to the point of scoring 50 points a game because that will be the only way this team can win.

food for thought. Ray Horton goes to Arizona and right now they have the least points given up through 3 games.

The players stink, no way to sugar coat it. Ziggy is a bust, Worlids, I thought he was going to be good but he is a one trick pony, rush the QB, he is terrible in coverage! Keenan Lewis is just bad and Ike looks lost again, at least we always could stop the run but now teams can go which ever way they choose.

It's both. It's scheme because we give WR's a 10 yard cushion. Great, we keep the play in front of us, but we give up 1st downs. Even when we give a 10 yard cushion we still get beat deep too, so what's the point? Listen to what the Broncos players said, we went with the same defensive plays over and over. The Donkeys knew what plays we were going to run. That's on the coaches.

Lebeau needs to go. I'm tired of him. Get rid of him now and bring someone else in for week 5.

Bingo!! Fan since the early 70's and appalled with the Coaching (totally emotionless). Tomlin always looks confused . 3rd and 1 on your own 35. You gotta kick it. It doesn't mean squat that they got the first. All Tomlin accomplished was making sure that e1 now knows he doesn't have any faith in his Defense!

    Defensive Line

I have said this for the past two years and most of this board responded with something like "You are overreacting...just give them a chance" or "They are not busts yet".......

    .....but

Why is it acceptable for the Defensive Line to avoid criticism when they generate absolutely no production whatsoever. Literally. When was the last time Ziggy Hood or a nose tackle or any other defensive end getting a pure sack on the QB?

We generate absolutely no pressure without Harrison, and it isn't JUST the D-line...our other linebackers are not good (Woodley gets double teamed with Harrison out), and you need all four linebackers to be great in this defensive scheme.

They wanted to rebuild the offensive, and I like what I am beginning to see from it.....but now it is time to rebuild the defense. They can start by completely re-doing the defensive line next year and go from there. Hampton will be gone, Keisel is getting old (but he is the defensieve captian) McClendon/Heyward/ and most importantly Hood should be sent packing...as we need new lineman.

ANY PRACTICE SQUAD player can produce at the level at which the current defensive line starters are producing, merely because the defensive line starters aren't producing.

Finally, I am not just venting because the Steelers just lost, I have been saying this forever and it is so frustrating when we had a great offensive performance but our defense cant pull their weight because the organization has overlooked something that has been so obvious for at least two years.

Its both. We have aging defensive players and although the scheme is being used successfully in other organizations, Lebeau doesn't seem to trust these guys as he did with his defenses in the past as far as exotic blitzes are concerned.

We never see a safety r corner blitz anymore. Its always the 2 inside backers and this is the NFL, teams pick up on things quickly here and are ready for this.

Great example. Ray Horton running the same defense in AZ, sends a safety off the edge, knocks Vick into next week, scoop and 93 yds later td. We used to do that, not anymore. We don't have those types of players right now. Maybe Troy and James change things but even with them in the lineup, I haven't seen anything exotic in the couple of years.

We desperately need a top tier corner anyway we can get one next yr. Draft or FA. We used to pick up that one key free agent to help our defense in the past, Kemo Von OlHoffen, Ryan Clark come to mind. They need to do the same with the corner position and do in next yr.

    Re: Defensive Line

I agree DL is obvioulsy below par, it looks like they hung on to Hampton one year too long, clinging to the fact with his girth that's he's a run stopper but when he can't shed blocks or get his hands free from a lineman all he really is now is a hugely overpaid blocking sled that RB's just run by. Sad to watch actually.

    Re: Defensive Line

Enough with the status quo. Get Hampton out of the game, he's useless. Stick someone else in there. Why is it every other team in the league can stick young guys in the lineup and get production from them, but apparently our guys need 3 years to learn the system?

    Re: Defensive Line

Hampton's job has always been to clog and he can still do that....but all of the other ones are doing absolutely nothing. Literally nothing. Aaron Smith use to average 7-9 sacks a season when he was healthy, playing under the same Dick Labeau Scheme....and now our Defensive ends cannot even blow on the QB....

Hell a 41 year old Kimo Von Oelhoffen would generate more pressure on the QB then any of our current starters.

I agree with all that has been said and will go one step further. I think DL is great but his time needs to come to a end. This reminds me of another Paterno era.

Yes. If it takes 3 years to learn the system, then we need a new system. Now.

Our corners are big and physical yet we have them playing in space they cannot break on a ball to save their lives ,they have no ball skills.we should be playing two deep with the safeties and bump and run with our corners, not the same 10yd cushion **** the whole game. Stupid is what stupid does. How are we supposed to get to the QB when he has a safety net every play?
