Its announced today that Ike Hillard will replace Sherman as Wr coach. I kinda don't want to post this because it is the third such announcement of this type by the beat writers in Pittsburgh. Can someone please make sense of what has happened? Did they pick a guy and he backed out? Did they not give enough time to candidates? Are they going to have a group effort?

I thought they hired Bryan McClendon a while back.

    It is very confusing

They had him in for an interview and it would seem a Beat writer jumped to conclusions and reported he was going to be hired. He isn’t .

It's a great question! None of this makes sense when you play it out chronologically.

After reading up on all the WR Coaches that I know who was interviewed it seems Ike is the better choice.

Id still like to see an Asst. WR Coach hired as well.

I can tell you one thing for certain, they didn't hire me! Surprisingly, I wasn't even interviewed.

Ike Hillard made Terry McLaurin produce one of the best overall rookie seasons that the Redskins have had since RGIII back in his Rookie outing. That said, he does have eight years of NFL Experience under his belt so that is worth noting. With the likes of JuJu, James, Deon and Diontae, he does have an impressive stable to work with.

That said, I still believe someone like Jalen Raegor would put this offense over the top.

Tomlin has ties to Ike Hilliard from their days at Tampa Bay together.
You're right about Raegor, he has Tyreek Hill's speed and he is 5'11" and is 195 lbs.

Let’s not get crazy though, Terry has tremendous speed, how much of that was Ike?

I loved Ike as a player, I’m a little confused by the lateral move though?

I wonder if Sherman will stay on board in some capacity?

I'll be honest and say that I don't know what all typically makes up a coaching staff. That being said, I notice a lot of activity "under" Futchner lately and I have to ask if it is a host of different colored band-aids being applied to a gushing wound?

Kaboly tweeted about a month or so ago that the new typical coaching staff for an NFL team is 20 coaches. The Steelers hiring of Canada as the QB coach brought their number to 14 the highest it's been under Tomlin. Makes you wonder if 20 is the average what 6 coaches are they not employing.

    Just a guess on a few:smiley1:
    1. Clock management coach
    2. Challenge flag coach
    3. Play calling coach
    4. Assistant head coach (someone to look like they care during the game)
    5. Tight Ends coach
    6. Sideline coach (so no other coaches step on the field during a play?

Could be wrong, but I doubt Sherman stays around. I believe he was only in camp as a consultant, then asked to come back simply because there was some relationship and who are you going to find a few weeks into a season? For whatever he lacks, he likely brought strong emotional support for these very young guys.

20??? I can remember when Noll had 6 or 7..and He refused to hire a special teams coach because he loved doing it so much. I cannot remember the exact year, but Rooney finally made him hire a sp teams coach. Even then (as I recall), the number of Coaches on NFL teams were around 10-12 and the Steelers still had 7.

If you have 20 coaches, you can’t possibly have everyone on the same page.
