Why did it take Cowher 13 years to win a Super Bowl then?

I never said Harbaugh is a bad coach , my point is it's rare for a owner to admit something like that to the media.

The truth? The truth that the Patriots are the team of the "Early 21st Century." Steelers were the team of the 70's... 49ers of the 80's... Cowboys of the 90's... and Patriots of 2 entire f**king decades.... 00's and 10's. Think about that for a second. Steelers wouldn't have jack sh!t in the 21st century if it weren't for the Jake Plummer-led Broncos and an ACL injury to Brady in the season opener of 2008 vs. Chiefs. The Derelle Revis-led Jets handed them a Super Bowl berth on a silver platter.

Cowher playoff teams were stacked at every position... except for the most important one, until 2004.

Well if O'Dunghead didn't throw a couple of gimme picks might have been a different story. Then on to the playoff pick machine Kordung. Then insert any other scrub. Then comes Ben. Winner.

And Tomlin started his head coaching career with a Franchise QB. Cowher didn't.

You can skate around your comment all you want but that’s what you tried to say. You didn’t say anything about the rarity of the owner saying what he said. You insinuated Harbaugh wasn’t such a great coach if the owner even thought of firing him. But whatever

    Hey Spencer.

I will add to your post. If Tomlin wins one more game last year, one more freakin' game, we win the Division and obviously go to the playoffs. What makes it even worse is that there were a number of games to choose from where we blew leads. Shoot, we can take it back to the first game of the season where of all lousy things, we end up in a tie with the Browns. I am still fuming over all of this. It was an epic "meltdown". We were in control of the division with a 2.5 game lead basically going into the second half of the season and it all falls apart. Unbelievable! Just "Disgusting".

Nah having Ben for your whole coaching career isn’t a big deal except for when you’re still counting on the 38 yr old version of him coming off elbow surgery to save the team. When Cowher got Ben he won. The Steelers were highly competitive and a actual SB threat for many years without a franchise QB. They’ve been less of a threat the last 9 years with one. It took Cowher all those years to build the entire team and when he finally got his QB ,he won. MT has been building for the last 9-10 years with his draft picks and already had a franchise QB. The clock is ticking....

Veabek’s season is over if the Steelers beat the teams they should have.

Then, no one remembers the Titans.

Don't know about that but, Way better than Tomlin... Implemented a plan to beat him twice ( with way less talent imo ) But that probably doesn't matter because..." We're always at least .500 participation award "

It's all about the sexy pick. More people watching and tweeting about the LJ Ravens. It's a popularity contest driven by metrics and social media foothold. The decision was likely made while Baltimore was the talk of the nfl. During that time, the Titans were quietly smashing their oppononents into little pieces.

It's like Rocky vs. Clubber Lang. Rocky got all the hype and trained in front of cameras while Clubber was destroying people and doing one-handed pullups in his basement.

I think I'm going to write a book called "Life's Handbook: The Teachings of Rocky Balboa."

That was my point actually. You can build a competitive team, but if you are lacking the key component of an elite franchise QB or are lacking to have a QB who just happened to have one very good year, it is very difficult to go far in the playoffs. In other words, having a great QB can make you look much smarter as a coach. We found out about that with Cowher.

The COTY award is about the regular season. The Ravens were 14-2 and won 9 or 10 straight to close out the regular season. The Titans were 8-5 and lost 2 straight at home before beating the resting Texans in Week 17. If you cut off the comparison at that point (which is how COTY is voted), then Harbaugh > Vrabel for 2019 in a landslide. IMO the only coaches who should have been considered as highly for COTY as Harbaugh were Shanahan and LeFleur.

Keep in mind, if we take care of business vs. the lousy Jets and the Ravens w/o a half dozen key players, Vrabel never has a chance to beat the Pats and Ravens.

Personally I really fear playing Oakland. It doesn't take a genius to figure out why.

That is not an accurate statement for the following reason. QBs on one team may not duplicate or achieve equal or better results on another team as a given. Some QBs thrive in the offenses that seems to bring out the best in them. SOme coaches actually game plan to achieve this. For instance, Nick Foles. Super Bowl MVP QB in Philly and then goes to Miami for big bucks and then gets hurt and then benched. How about Tannehill failing miserably in Miami and now he leading a team in the AFC title game for the Titans. He may not be lighting the world on fire but he is still playing and we're not. I could say with equal validity that Flacco could have taken us to one more SB then BB did and, like you, would have absolutely no way of proving beyond a doubt that its true or false.

We can knock Flacco all we want but the truth of the matter is he went on a tear in that postseason and would of been very effective playing for a lot of teams based on how well he played. He was on fire that postseason.

Yes, but we didn't and he did something no one thought he could do and we sure as hell couldn't, even against backups, and that is beat the Rats in their own home with an extra week of rest. Now he has a chance to beat all odds and play for the NFL title.

Postseason football is like NHL in that the level of play is notched up quite a bit and you never know what can happen. The Giants come to mind barely getting in as a 6th seen and by the grace of God destroyed the CHeats undefeated season in the SB. So unpredictable IMO>

Harbaugh is a top 10 coach, and they had 3 nonplayoff seasons in a row, that's why the owner said that.
