Rivers played with several HOF'ers and couldnt get to the big dance. Rivers had Ladainian Tomlinson for his entire career , Rivers was/is a good QB but he should not have been the first QB drafted that year ( yes I know Eli was, but was traded for Rivers with the Giants who had the 4th pick, essentially making Rivers the #1 overall pick , symantics?? Maybe )

I know, but Rivers had him for almost his entire career, so that means Rivers couldnt win with a HOF RB and TE on the same team.

If he retired 8 years ago, and Rivers has played 15 years...How is 8, " Most of his career, when it wasn't even half?

Almost all of the young guns can take off and run as well as beat you with their arm. I wonder if we have seen the last of the classic drop back passers like Brady or Peyton Manning.

I think the protective rule changes have opened things up for running QBs.

The game is changing. But look at college FB, every team plays with mobile QBs, it's hard to find and draft quality drop back QBs anymore. The worm turns, in the early days of pro football, well into the '40s, the QB position was a running position. Theyd throw passes, but so did the halfbacks and full backs.

Teams will have to figure out how to use the talent that is available to them. Guys like Russell Wilson and now LaMarr Jackson appear to be showing the way. Other young mobile QBs like DeShsun Watson, Kyler Murry, Josh Allen may change the idea of what an offense looks like.

Lots of folks here claim to yearn for the good old days of the running game, and lamented it's loss in the pass happy 21st Century. But the 2019 Balt Ravens had the best record in football and set an all time rushing ydage record and ran for almost a 1000yds more than anyone else this year. It's a copy cat league., defense have gotten smaller to get fast for the passing game. Maybe we are on the cusp of a rushing resurgence, with QBs leading the way.

Think of it this way Disco, Tomlin has a better playoff record than Rivers.

Plus, we picked Mason at a time when Ben was talking retirement so they drafted MR because they had a 1st rd grade on him and he lasted until the 3rd round. Now, what is scary is the same people who many now want to draft a QB to replace Ben have already done this with picking MR. So how confident do you feel they can get it right the next time? I think we need to add QB to the list of positions that the Steelers don't do so well based on recent picks..

How many mobile QB's are still effectively running, or just starting, 5 years in the league. RGIII, Cam, Krap, even Baker Minefield has regressed and it only took 1 yr.. They don't last. I will be highly surprised if Jackson is still running the same yardage in the next year or two. Lets see just how far the Rats go and how Jackson does in playoff football.

Very unlikely. Their shelf life is much less. Even we just drafted MR and released Dobbs. What does that tell you?

There shelf life improves every season, as the rules to protect them increase.

Teams are comfortable with RBs having a 5-yr life, why can't they get that way with QBs?
You may see a world where the QB position is less important. Why have one guy consume so much of your salary cap?

Besides everyone assumes Lamarr won't last. Russell Wilson has. Mobile QBs of the past, ex: Elway, Tarkenton. These guys might be more durable than many think.

LT was drafted in 2001, PR was drafted in 2004, Rivers had LT for his first 6 years in the NFL. LT played 11 seasons in the NFL, all but 2 of them with the Chargers. So by math standards, 6 of 11 is the majority of his career. Are there any other questions or math problems you need help with?

At times it takes insight and guts as well. Andy Reid swapped their first rounder, traded a 3rd and the following years first to get Mahomes. If he would have washed as other Big 12 QB's have done, it would have set the franchise back years, but that those that swap was a bargain in hindsight. You just never know. While the stats and combine were impressive, others have had impressive numbers as well and tanked. Reid took the gamble, 10 other teams had their chance, while yet 21 others had a chance to jump KC. Hopefully we get that lucky with a future pick.

    Spot on.

Thing is if we had brought Mahomes into our system, with our coaches...he wouldn't be the qb that Reid has. He'd probably have been fighting for a roster spot with Josh Dobbs.

I know the Steelers had Johnny U originally, I think couple of other quality or HOF QB's they let go..please lets not go down that road again.

I dont know where you learned math or percentages but when the number is greater than ( this is the symbol for that > ) the other numbers, the result is true. In laymans terms, it means I am right and you are not. Somehow you even figured out the proper percentage of .546, which means more than 50%....its actually about 55% in relative terms, so not only did you prove my point, you also proved that you were wrong all at the same time. Congratulations!!!!
