How much would you like to have a reliable kicker about now?

Think about it - Tomlin didn't have enough confidence in him to try a field goal to put his team up by a touchdown. Instead, he opts to take the delay of game penalty and there went the ballgame. Now - I don't blame him for thinking that the defense could hold the opponent on a 92 yard drive, but gosh - when you are so afraid that your kicker can't make the 48 yard field goal that you decide not to go for the points, what does that say about your PK?

We need a new, reliable, strong-legged kicker on this team!

Poor decision making by the coaches lost this game. But when posted on the another topic about predicting the score,I told yall that 31 points had to be scored by the offense. It worked so well against the pats that we Stop doing it. :frustrated:  :-(

I don't think the decision to take the delay of game and punt was a bad decision. I think it was the ONLY decision Tomlin thought he could make. He just doesn't have the confidence in Suisham - and I don't blame him.

I agree it was the only decision, and I agree that there is no confidence in Suisham (well deserved), but I don't care who your kicker is in that case, the decision was correct. You do not give any QB the ball on the 37 yard line with that much time. Two points here:
    1. Our offense needs to be able to convert there. If we get one more first down, game over.
    2. Our defense had just forced them to punt and we have tem buried on the 8. We needed to hold them and we didn't. We missed Woodly here, especially on that last drive. Without him we could not get to the QB (can't even say his name here - Ugh, just so disgusted)

AND, we left a lot of points on the field. That int. in the 3rd quarter REALLY hurt.

The differnce between last week and this week is that last week we were playing pitch and catch against the worst pass defense in the NFL. Coaching didn't lose this game. Poor player execution lost this game. In the last offensive drive Johnson drops a ball right in his paws that would have helped keep the drive alive and then Ben and Moore can't connect on what should have been an easy pitch and catch to where even if we don't get the 1st down we get a few more yards to shorten up the FG and then finally what can you say about that Stellar defensive effort of letting Flacco and company march 92 yards against what's supposed to be the 2nd best defense in the NFL. Even if you take away that last drive, on the night the ratbirds had close to a 50% success rate on 3rd downs which is simply an awful defensive performance and it had nothing to do with coaching. That secondary that we thought was improving this year sure didn't look like it last night. :ratbirds:

While i am not against looking at getting a new kicker I think that people are looking at the situation wrong. They didnt take the penalty on purpose. Tomlin's post game press conference explained what happened in which they were making late personnel changes and he was worried about the new holder and such and that they lost track of the play clock. Whether this is to cover up the poor decision making or not I think you have to take it at face value and believe that they just screwed up. had nothing to do with confidence in Suisham.

'Tomlin didn't have enough confidence in him...', isn't Suisham's fault, it's Tomlin's fault.

Also, Suisham does not play on a defense that gave up a 92 yard drive.

I've noticed that Suisham is getting a LOT of flack today. Wasn't he 2 for 2 on field goals last night? Usually a kicker gets hammered when he actually misses a crucial kick.

The way they made it sound on the NFL network today that he didn't choose to take that penalty, there was confussion between Ben and Tomlin. He took responsibility for the mix up after the game. I don't think was a case of Tomlin not believing in Suisham, but more of him getting caught up in the game and not paying attention to the play clock.

Listen why did let waters go atleast put the guy on the practice squad he has a bigger leg the suisam. I dont blame him for our loss but if you cant trust a guy to kick a field goal for you dont you think you should look at other options?

It's not a matter of blaming him for the loss - or even this particular game. What I'm saying is that he has been so inconsistent through the whole SEASON so far that he hasn't earned the trust of his coach to make a crucial field goal when the game is on the line. Tomlin even admitted in his post-game that distance was a factor. It was a 48 yarder. That's no chip shot, but it should be close enough to kick it in that situation. Does anyone think that if we had someone like Janikowski there would have even be the hesitation that Tomlin talked about? No way - the field goal team would have been in place before Ben even got to the sidelines.

All I'm saying is that the team lacks that go-to kicker that can ice the game when it's needed. This was a team loss - no doubt. The offense suffered from TREMENDOUS clock mis-management in the final drive with ONE play making the difference in the amount of time the Ravens had to score (Watson's missed catch.). The defense had NO answer to the Ratbirds 3rd down offense (14-21 on 3rd downs) AND the special teams (Suisham) was just not reliable enough to ice the game.

I do not really buy that they wanted to take the penalty. If so, you leave the offense on the field and try to draw the D offside, at which point you eaither take the penalty and punt of if successful, you are closer and kick the FG. Since they actually got the FG team on the field, I think they were not intentionally taking the penalty, it was a mix-up and is unacceptable at a pro level given the situation!

Jeff Reed missed a few 50+ at the end of games so I never like kicking in that spot. I would rather go for it on 4th and 5 or less. At least it saves 7 yards if (Usually is) it is missed

I dont get get how anyone can blame Suisham for the loss when he never had a chance to even try?? If he tried and mised it then throw him under the bus! Even if they say the coaches didnt mean to take the penalty and lost track of the time, there is a whole team out there! Someone should have known that clock was getting low. This loss is not blame on a kicker who never had a chance to kick, but the ENTIRE COACHING STAFF!!! :frustrated:

When it first happened, I thought as the whistle was blown that one of the announces said something to the effect that there was a problem with the play clock. I though they were stopping things to resolve the problem. Anyone else hear that, or was I hearing things?

So Savaran has reported Jeff Reed has been hanging out on the Southside working out for the Steelers on a couple occasions just to see where he is at physically. Savaran said he has been lifting weights and is looking pretty ripped....

I don't know, once you lose it you lose it. I would be hesitant to bring him back.
