I think the o-line we put on the field this season is worse than what was there in '05. I thing Redman and Dwyer are doing a fantastic job as they are getting pummeled by at least 3 defenders in the backfield before making it to the LOS. How can a pro unit be this bad? Is it coaching or just the guys we have are that bad? For all the people defending Gilbert, the would starve to death if he had to use his feet to get in line at a cafeteria for all of his meals because he can't use his feet at all. I swear it looks as if he has to move laterally he looks as if he is going to trip everytime not to mention everytime he moves laterally he gets smoked. Max Starks really improved the line last season but man, he is getting beat like a rented mule just about every play to and don't even mention Ramone Foster, may as well play without anyone there. I thought is was bad at Denver, week 2 and it got a lot worse with the only difference was the play of Ben and the Jets unable to tackle, on the last TD, which was awesome, Redman got hit and was all but wrapped up in the backfield yet the jets D couldn't get him to the ground and Bart Scott...How many guys come in that clean and hit the QB and the guy still doesn't go down? I don't know about the rest of you here, but there is np more predictable offense than being in 2nd and long after every run on first down.

It's apparent out offense IS Ben. We need to pass to set up the run, not vice versa.

I thought the run game did it's job. It controlled the clock all game for us. Stop being so critical after 2 games

I'm suprised they do as well as they do, the run blocking has just been horrid. I doubt Mendy does any better when he comes back. But I'm sure in time they will improve.

the oline is pitiful. Running back can barely secure the ball before they are hit. Ben was back there running for his life and if we had a stationary quarterback the line would of given up 8 sacks. Better yet, if the jets could tackle it would of been a lot worse.

we need to get this line coached up because when we play someone with a decent front four (49ers, Ravens, Eagles, Giants,) we are going to struggle big time.

Bitching about not having a 100 yard game AND it's only week 2.......

That's my point. I also mentioned our RB's getting the job done by helping control the clock. I never mentioned the o-line, which is what you're referring to. Never said we are where we need to be but people constantly bitching just to see themselves ***** is already getting old this season. We won and did it fairly handily. Enjoy the win, stop the whining.

We ***** because we've had a weak Oline for 5+ years now and nothing ever seems to be done about it. No matter who we bring in, our Oline is still garbage. Time will tell if Decastro and Adams can help, but I'm starting to wonder if it's something deeper than just the players lining up. Is there something Tomlin is doing wrong, as ever since he came in we haven't had a good Oline.

It's not bitching or whining, it's talking about something that will limit the success of this team. The Jets are a garbage team, so lets not get fooled into thinking that we'll be just fine with this Oline. If we play the Giants or 49'ers, we're going to get slaughtered because we can't run the ball or protect Ben. Something has to change with this Oline.

Well when Tomlin was hired the Steelers lost a great Oline coach in Russ Grimm. I don't think either of the oline coaches that Tomlin hired have come close to Grimm's abilities.

Is this a message board? Would you like there to be 100 threads about how great that win was and how there's nothing we can improve on? Perhaps we should just not create new posts at all. Lets just censor everything and everyone.

The win was great, but the Oline still sucks, and that's what this thread is about.

Russ Grimm, also had Alan Faneca, Jeff Hartings, and Marvel Smith. That should pretty much end this discussion.

The Oline has sucked for years, it's status quo. I like what I am seeing from the offense and hopefully as the year goes on, the line will start doing better making Bens job easier and the run game more effective. Don't forget, our number 1 pick is on the sideline and our #2 is wet behind the ears.

Very true, but I see these other teams plugging in UDFA and they have great Olines. What are we doing wrong that no matter who we bring in, our Oline sucks. Will Decastro eventually make a difference? I hope so, but he's only one guy. The Oline as a whole looks awful. If come next year we still have a poor Oline, it's time to question the coaching, all the way up to Tomlin (and no, I'm not saying fire him). The coaches must be doing something wrong if Gilbert, Decastro and Adams can't help improve this line.

shaner, the OP is the same guy who last week started a "Fire Haley" post after 1 game. I log on this morning and see he's now posting about our lack of a 100 yard rushing game. My original post was about our RB's getting the job done by helping control the T.O.P., not the o-line.

I already stated in a response to mac daddyo that i wasn't talking about the o-line. You want to keep insisting that i am. I have no problems with anyone noticing deficiencies and wanting to discuss them, but it IS only week 2 and it WAS a fairly easy (for lack of a better term) win against a team who put up a ton of points the previous week. We have obviously addressed the weak o-line the last few seasons with the additions of Pouncey, Gilbert, Adams, and DeCastro. Now give them time to gel and work out the kinks is all.

No doubt! Why do people expect things to do a 180 immediately? We have addressed the weak o-line issues in the draft. It takes time for them to learn the system and to gel. Anyone who thought by week 2 all of our o-line problems would be fixed is either naive as hell or doesn't understand the game.

we could run it every play of the year and win the TOP. we won because of shear will of our qb to make a play, some great catches and the shear will of our RB's to fight , claw and tear for every inch of turf. it had nothing to do with winning the LOS in the run game. it's a problem, talking about it doesn't mean we are bitching. it's a fact after 2 weeks. in the nfl every week is important as we have seen the last couple of years. it's the difference between the playoffs and the couch come december. our linemen are not good. i wouldn't be opposed to bringing up lee and beachum and adams and letting them play. i'm not so sure it would look much different, but THEY might get better. i know that's kind of knee jerk, but we have to do something, it's not going away.

I don't expect it immediately, but after 5 years when it hasn't improved, I start to get a little impatient. How many years does Tomlin need to fix this Oline? Why can other teams bring in UDFA's and they look like 1st round picks, but our high picks (Gilbert and Adams) struggle? Will Decastro pan out? Hopefully, but even if he does, he fills one spot on an Oline that looks crappy all around. I'm hoping they get it together, but this year looks like a lost cause for our line. Even when Decastro comes back, he needs time to develop, and it will take time for them to gel. If come next year this line isn't fixed, somebody needs to lose their damn job. That's unacceptable to have 4 high draft picks on the line and for it to still suck.

Exactly, there's nothing to get bent out of shape about. The fact is that regardless of how many rushing yards were totaled yesterday, the run blocking is not where it should be, and needs to improve.
