The only TE that we took above the the 5th round in the last 25 years is Heath. They just don't value the position.

You're absolutely right. I doubt Kittle would want to stay in the backfield to pass protect either.

I seem to remember a lot of people looking for the Steelers to take Kittle at the time, the BTSC pod (I think) were raving about him. Imagine if they had picked him instead of Dobbs in the fourth they’d have gotten Watt, Juju, Conner, Sutton and Kittle in one draft!!

Ravens got some good TE’s in the mid rounds over the years and the Seahawks got Dissly in the fourth last year. Might be worth rolling the dice on a TE with one of their fourth rounders this year. Vance is a cut candidate imo ($6m saving!) and Vannett is a FA at the end of the season.

I remember playing Madden online against guys who used the Falcons and Vick. They would run 20 yards behind the Line of scrimmage and then try to run the length of the field. I'd beat it with dual CB blitzes. Then on offense I'd run davenport behind Krieder the Destroyer after motioning Ward close to the formation. I just run variations on off tackle plays with Ward and Krieder clearing the way. Lots of rage quits by those guys and angry messages about why don't I throw it. It was fun.

They were discussing Iowa TE's on Sunday night and how teams just know that the Iowa coaching staff churns out quality players at the position and how ready they are.just need to get the next few.

I don't think you can keep trading away 1st rounders for players already in the NFL on a consistent basis. I'm glad they showed the willingness this time and that it got done. FS was a huge need. But you lose 1-2 years on the rookie contract and it seems we are always fighting the cap.

Lets reflect. Without Sean Davis's injury and Kameron Kelly not ready for prime time Minkah Fitzpatrick doesn't happen. The circumstances at the time made this happen, and i'm grateful they finally have a player at the safety position that is in the same vein as Polamalu and what he brought. So what they gave away was justified. It was a surprise to say the least.

    Hey Spartacus.

I don't know about that one. Hmmm.:hmm: Let me think here. Well, Heath Miller was great, Matt Spaeth was not bad. Jesse James was above average in my opinion. I really like Vance McDonald. However, We did not draft him. Yeah, I am with you Spartacus we could definitely upgrade our talent evaluation personnel in the TE department as well.

Shoot, except for Wide Receivers, let us just put scouts from the other teams on our payroll and draft our "O" skilled position players. For the "O" line, we seem to draft well. Defense we are doing a pretty good job. Although Minkah seems to have elevated the "D" to a whole different level. Like Troy. Oh, but Troy was a Cowher pick and Minkah was not our draft pick either.

So, truth be told, I really think that whole "O" scouting department, except for the WRs scouts and "O" Line players scouts, should hit the road. We seem fairly competent on the "D" side although player development is still taking too long for some. Now Bud seems to be finally getting it. Unfortunately, it has taken five years and we may lose him to FA.

I think they’re pretty good as well. I just can’t understand why they’re not being targeted more. I also don’t really see them being used to help out our OL either,so it’s a little perplexing.

Copy and pasted from a article I read. Figured is was apropos....
Shanahan, like many of the league’s best offensive coaches, has figured out that one of the best ways to move the football is to throw out of traditionally run-based personnel groupings that include two- or three tight ends or a fullback, and in the lead item in this week’s Things I Noticed column — highlighted in a video expertly stitched together by my main man and Eagles fan Ron Schiltz — I show you exactly how he’s doing it, why it’s so effective and why Shanahan is getting all the respect in the world in league circles right now.

Question is, what could WE get for Minkah now, after the season he's had, and essentially 3 years left on his rookie contract?

I bet we could get more than a 1st.

Overall, the 2020 class is not as great as I initially thought but there are still certain positions that are RIDICULOUS with the talent and depth there. Obviously EDGE but Corner makes a triumphant return this time. Best one for me?! Hello Interior Defensive Lineman..... just like in 2019 but potentially even better.

    Hey dobbler-33.

Yes, yes, yes, and yes! The TEs have become as I say "Invisible". This is totally ridiculous; especially given the QB situation. I am completely mind-boggled as to what this coaching staff is doing, or not, with the TE personnel on this team. They can offer so much to the young QBs and the "O" overall. I am just baffled here regarding this situation.
