Couldn't he have got his surgery done in the offseason instead of waiting until training camp, instead of that crap I wanted to see how it heals on it's own. Now he will miss probably a good portion of the season and it will take him a couple of games when he comes back to get in game shape.

I have wandered this for YEARS. Its not just James Harrison with a minor clean out either.
The History of late beginning of the season surgery's need to be LOOKED AT.

OTOH, surgery is never a no-risk option. I'm sure many athletes would prefer to let the injury heal with time and rehab whenever possible. When you're faced with a long off-season, this seems like a good idea. Then August rolls around and it's not healed yet... time to take option B.

It's frustrating to us, but understandable.

Agreed. Not only do athletes not want to go under the knife if the injury can heal itself, but doctors don't like to do unnecessary surgeries either. Even minor surgeries, there's a giant list of possible side effects.

On an unrelated note, I just heard that Tomlinson went his entire career without ever having a single surgery. Not only is that impressive for an NFL player, but it's insanely impressive for a work horse RB. Wow.

I think this might be Harrison's last season with the Black and Gold or take a reduce salary. We'll especially see it depending who we target in the draft.

If we draft a starting caliber outside linebacker you can definitely see Harrison gone. But if not, i don't see anyone on the current roster that can actually come close to taking his place.

I've wondered why they wait for surgery too. But it's their body I guess. I've knew women who have had breast cancer and instead of removing the breast they just take out the lump. I've always thought if it were me the common sense thing to do would seem to be take it off. But people are different. I suppose also it's tough to know how it's gonna hold up in a game situatuion as well. It might seem fine just walking around but then when you really put it to the test it might not be as healed as you think it is. Also he probably has doctors telling him different things as well.

And who in the college ranks is going to come in and simply replace a James Harrison? He is still one of the best in the league. To even have a shot at a top guy you need to be picking in the top 10 picks.

i agree rob. this is like the ravens cutting suggs because he's out this year. i just read this knee injury happened in mini camp early on. you don't just replace james harrison with a draft pick. beleive me if we throw him to the wolves next year, every team in the league will be lining up to get him.
