    Here's how it works.

The team wins not a peep about Tomlin being a bad coach.

The team loses and Tomlin is a bad coach, people don't like him, everything is his fault ect.

The team is extremely short handed on the offensive side of the ball. It's getting worse every week. On top of it they don't get consistent enough play from the QB position. I don't think there is a coach in the league that could help a team win with the losses this offense had over the past 3 or 4 years.

That being said Tomlin had this team competing hard almost every week. If that's not motivation than I don't know what is. Ultimately execution by the talent on the field wins in the NFL.

Regardless of motivation or any other factors if the offense doesn't play better the defense is going to wear down and become less effective.

    Hey BURGH43STEL.

I admit I get fickled sometimes too with W's and L's also. I am only human. Most of us do it. The L's obviously bring more of the second guessing out in some fans. One thing I will stand by, is that Tomlin never was, nor is now an "X" and "O" man. Given that, his motivational Skills or his ability to keep the troops still fighting skills are a plus through thick and thin. If he had strong supporting coaches, the "X" and "O" deficiencies could be worked with. Given all of that, we really could be at the top of the division right now if the following blunders did not occur which I do not blame on Tomlin:

Moncrief: Seattle game, JuJu: Rats game, Connor, SF game, Mason, Stains game.
Fine line I know. Once again, I do not blame Tomlin for these.

I guess you didn't watch the game against the Bengals earlier this season, the Bengals were never in the game in the second half.

The Steelers 3/4 defense has always been centered around the OLBs, not the secondary. They had to overcome the contract of Woodley, and the bust Jarvis Jones.

Wait ,so there hasn’t been years where our secondary was atrocious and the weakest link on the defense? Because I certainly remember it that way. Antwon or should I say Valentino Blake was starting for us....enough said.

I would post on here and vent about the terrible secondary, they were stubborn for awhile, and wouldn't use high draft picks on cornerbacks.

people continually bring up Tomlins record as a means to point out how good of a coach he is.. He does not have a good winning record where it counts..

Using top picks on dbs hasn't worked either. Agree with steelersrule6, the 3-4 is all about the linebackers.

It seems to work when we end up with other teams number 1 picks at DB. Minkah and Haden. I believe Nelson was a 3rd as well. I seem to remember plenty of years where are DBs were easily the weakest link in our D. OLBs and DBs go hand in hand. No sacks with no coverage. Tough to cover with no pressure. It just hasn’t worked when we make the picks.

Gonna disagree with the no sacks with no coverage. I'm just trying to say that in a 3-4, your linebackers (inside& outside) determine if your any good at it. Bad linebackers- you need great dbs, good linebackers- not required.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding. Disagree with no sacks without good coverage? The QB will just get rid of the ball before pressure gets there. They most definitely go hand in hand.

Yes. I don't think it takes more than 3.5 seconds of adequate coverage when your olb linebackers are studs. The inside guys need to be able to rush or cover the dump offs. I'm a big believer in the pass rush making the dbs look good. Well most dbs but talent like Troy & a few others can dominate a game without the linebackers help.

Brady has been nullifying pass rushes for over a decade. Then ball is out of most QBs hands in less than 3 seconds. The dink and dunk is so effective because most teams don’t have good enough CBs to play man to man ,bump and run. The teams with most success against the better QBs have been from teams playing a 4-3 and or pressure up the middle. Without CBs that can crowd and jam the WRs the OLBs aren’t gonna get home. It’s why when we play them our success has come from playing man. When we play zone our OLBs are useless. I still say hand in hand. Can’t have one without the other and be effective. Agree to disagree.

I think it's been stated that, that is his best attribute... Motivation...And they are playing hard ( they should though, why would you not )

And my main ***** isn't this year's Tomlin... It's the last , I don't know how many years, when he continually lost to teams like this current team, and teams like the Bungals...

Not ready to play, constant miscommunication in the defenseive backfield...Never winning a challenge... Horrible with clock management...What a great COACH!

Here they come in 3, 2, 1 with the non- losing record bs

I thought we were arguing about what makes the 3-4 click, my argument was the linebackers more than the dbs or the dline. Not sure how Brady, the 4-3, or zone vs. man was relevant.

    Correction:

The team wins and Tomlin lovers cream over his winning percentage rising .04%.

The team loses and Tomlin lovers absolve him of ALL responsibility because of racism, global warming, and injuries.

Win or lose, Tomlin lovers give him credit for "keeping the team together" and "excellent fist pumping" and "giving out game balls."

It's ridiculous, really. Tomlin apologists give him credit even when we suck and then scream his praises when we win. You can't win with these people.

Lol...I’m not really sure either. Steelrule6 said something about them having to rebuild the D because of the Woolley contract and Jarvis being a bust. I said that our biggest issue with having trouble rebuilding the D was also because of how horrendous our DBs were for years and that they were the weakest link and that falls on Tomlin because it was supposed to be his specialty. My point still stands though. You can have the best OLBs in the world but if there’s no coverage behind them they won’t get home. That’s where all the Brady stuff comes in because he proved it. Coverage in the secondary is critical to getting pressure. Can’t cover forever without a pass rush. Can’t have one without the other. Hand in hand.

Hard to argue having no coverage behind them. What about adequate coverage from adequate dbs playing an adequate zone? Do linebackers still need good dbs or journeymen not named Burns? Now switch it up to great dbs with adequate lbs. Marsha still dinks & dunks on great dbs playing man, he is pretty good at being blitzed. Probably the best. You insist on his relevance where I see him as an anomaly. To each his own.

It’s a circular argument. The 3 most important positions in today’s NFL are QB, Edge rusher and shut down corner. It’s no coincidence edge rusher and cover corner are among the 3 . They are both equally important. You need to be able to pressure and cover. Adequate is a assumption that they are good enough to get the job done. So having adequate players at either position is well.......adequate....lol. Agree to disagree :smiley1:

I'm in aqls camp concerning shut down corners. Safety is much more important today in the NFL.
