There is something odd about MR?

I know what you mean. Mason has been pretty damn good so far, but he just doesn't have that "it" factor, where he wows you often or completely makes the play himself. As for the student of the game stuff, yeah I think I can see it.. With time he should improve but he still doesn't have the "it" factor, not yet at least, but usually they have it right away, like Duck, and Ben. Rudolph reminds me of a poor man's Peyton Manning, a very, very poor man's. He will likely need good blocking/pocket to throw from, and a great set of skill players, as well as a high performing defense, if he were to have me feeling confident about winning a Superbowl ever in his career.

He also seems to lack arm strength that a Ben or a Rodgers has. He really has to wind up for accurate throws on longer passes. Where as Ben could throw a pass with nice velocity 20 or 25 yards downfield while a defender was hanging onto his waist dragging him down, if Mason attempted something like that, Im afraid the ball would float and get picked off.

All in all, he has done well so far though, and he is young, definitely can and should improve.

I didn't say I didn't think he needed a QB coach. I said the Pittsburgh Steelers organization didn't think one was necessary since they didn't bring one in.

This kinda sums up how I have felt watching him. He doesn't zing the ball it floats, and every time he throws, I am holding my breath.

But, the kid has some backbone! Let's hope it clicks for him!

If he has a nice pocket, and can wind up and step into the throw like a baseball pitcher, then it's usually a pretty good pass. If the pocket is sketchy and he is moving around or can't wind up and has to throw off his back foot, then yeah, I'm holding my breath. Although, he knows his limitations and likely throws shorter passes in those situations. Ben is his own style and we won't see that same backyard scramble drill style from Mason not near as much because he doesn't have that zip to get it downfield unless he can step into it.

I think it can click for him, we have seen a lot of pure pocket passing QB's succeed. They just need a pocket and some guys that can get open before the pocket breaks down. I think Mason could potentially win a Superbowl, but would need a great cast offense+defense and some luck or whatever. I certainly would not expect him to be a dynasty multiple SB winning QB that put the team on his back multiple teams to get there and to win.

I wonder if Patriots fans were saying the same thing about Brady when Bledsoe went down in 2001? Brady won games, but it's not like he set the world on fire.

Actually... what am I thinking? Patriots fans didn't exist until they won the Super Bowl vs. Rams.

Dude it’s about timing. That is part of chemistry and is developed with time and repetition. Every player is different. Their speed is different. Their routes are slightly different. Their cuts are slightly different.

It’s not even a argument. 2 young QBs on the roster should have a QB coach.

MR could have a breakout game, throw for 400 yards and 3 plus TD's. There would be posters claiming he is the 2nd coming. He will have a game where he throws 3 picks and some posters will say I told you so! That's football. Last week against an inferior opponent Brees looked anything like a HOF QB...again that's football. What MR has done in his first few games statistically pretty much equals Ben's first few games. Ben had a much greater supporting group of players surrounding him. I am not implying that he is, will be, or has Ben's potential, however patience is kind of warranted in our world of desiring instant perfection.

During the game some posters seem to live and die on each play. When Ben went down after 2 abysmal performances by this team, when we were 1-4 most of us thought the season was a bust anyway ( it still maybe), but we are at least getting a glimpse of a very young team learning to win in spite of all the things thrown against them.

That's what we're saying is a problem. If we can see his issues and the commentators are all over it. Maybe you need to actually get someone in to work on it with the young guys. I get that it is Randy's former job and he may have some personal pride in wanting to develop the guys, but as Coordinator, you don't have time to just sit there and solely work on the QB's.

This is the same asinine crap they pulled with Kordell. He needed someone working with him exclusively and they didn't think it was necessary to give him one.
