A bit of perspective on the loss.

1979 Super Bowl year week 12 ---San Diego Chargers 35 Steelers 7.


I'm not saying the Steelers are a Super Bowl contender but good teams do have rotten days sometimes.

The team couldn't do anything right until it was nearly too late.
I'd say that season turned out well.

 

I'll say that!

I really liked what I saw out of our offense last night. I saw runs to the left (*gasp*), designed passes to the RB's, plays designed to take advantage of Rainey, plays called to set up something later in the game (a game PLAN!), and plenty of open receivers. Things are looking up for our offense, even considering our injuries on the OL.

Our defense is still capable of getting the job done at a high level. Having Harrison back will drastically improve our run defense, and should generate some pocket pressure. Having Clark back there will also free up Troy to do more of his Tasmanian Devil stuff. Our defense may not be the prescence that it once was with Casey Hampton and Aaron SMith in their prime, but we'll still be top-5 statistically.

 

Finally someone with some sense!!!

 

Never seen a team go to the Super Bowl after week one....

I have but I've never seen one go before it.

 

Here's my perspective. The Steelers were in that game and moving down the field until the int. That means we could have won that game. Yes the "D" wasn't the best, but it was Manning on the other side and he makes a lot of teams look mediocre at best. Yes we were without several key players on "D" and our OL got beat up some. Get the OL healthy and the starters back on "D" and there is a different result. IMO.

0-1 looks bad because of the zero in the win column. Once the wins start to pile up, that "1" will not be feeling so bad.

 

We have been in this situation before many times and it is not the end of the world. We will snap back and start to play Steeler football. Relax it was only game 1 and Manning was on a mission and he got it accomplished very well.

 

Glad to see some common sense posts after the garbage yesterday morning.

 

that's all fine but it being manning had nothing to do with the tackling that wasen't going on. a top 5 defense doesn't let a guy ramble 80 yds. that easily. the tackling by our DB's was aweful and very steeler unlike. they better fix that, because any qb in the league can throw a 3 yd. pass and make it read an 80 yd. pass play. not acceptable.

 

Only thing that looks like it improved from last year was benefits getting the ball out quicker. The offensive line still the same and the defense seems like it's the same as last year as well. But it's only week one.

 

THankfully, I missed those because I was waiting to watch the game on catch-up... but I can imagine.
