Another short week, another must win (Colts Gameplan)

I feel like I just made this thread for the Ravens game. Most of us agreed you showed wildcat in primetime against the Bengals. Do not do it against the Ravens. What did they do? Played scared, wildcat, and throw out of wildcat at their 5. That 1st quarter ultimately cost them the game.

Colts d-line is no joke. We might have a 3rd or 4th string RB in. We cannot play normal Steelers football and run to open the pass. It's not going to work on their d-line and we are playing right into their strengths. We will waste drives early. I think we need to come out in 4-5 wide and do some quick hitters and get Rudolph in a rhythm. Catch the Colts off guard.

This old mentality of playing not to lose early and just stay in the game to give yourself a chance is outdated in this pass/score happy league. Not to mention majority of the season defense played better in the 1st half. We need to be trying to put up points on every drive. I rather Rudolph throw an int down field than Samuels at our 10.

Also, the Colts d coordinator is the potential Tomlin replacement I've floated. Matt Eberflus.

 

I don't think they played not to lose early last night, I think MR was scared ****less early and I don't blame him; I thought he was dead three weeks ago! And if he has watched the video of himself trying to walk off field thinking he was at Disney-Land, asking his mom for cotton-candy, he was probably pretty nervous in the first quarter. Good for him he got it together later on.

MR had all the time in the world early in last nights game and somehow couldn't find an open receiver; we may not have the best WR corp in the league but I know someone had to be open once in a while. I think MR was shell-shocked.

 

Agreed. As far as playing scared I was talking about the Ravens game. Last night? They weren't prepared per usual and MR did look shell shocked. Probably treated the whole week like a bye week because "Dolphins are tanking" I called that.

Going to be a tough matchup. Brissett has played really well. Marlon Mack is a decent runner. TY Hilton is good. Their defense is very good.

Going to be a hard match up. This is a win the Steelers need. They need to prove they can beat for real team that is a playoff contender. This is the matchup.

Can't make early mistakes. If the defense plays at a high level and gets after Brissett we will have a shot. I just really like the way the defense has been playing this year. It's very much improved.

A lot is going to fall on Mason Rudolph he will have to carry the team more, with Conner may be sidelined and we may be down to only Samuels and Edmunds at running back.

 

Agreed. That's why we need to a tailor a gameplan for the players we got to win. But in typical Steelers/back-up QB fashion. We will run on the first two downs against their stellar d-line. Setting Mason up for 3rd and long and failure. We will do this many times in the 1st half and blow drives/chance at points. Then they will open it up and look decent in the 2nd half but fall short because of their approach in the 1st half. So basically the 49ers or Ravens game again. We've seen this movie too many times.

I'd like to see Mason use McDonald a little more. He's a guy who can be a difference maker in this game against the Colts.

 

I looked on the Steelers site, they don’t have a moderator. Any other qualifications?

 

Is their D all that great? I haven't watched them this year, but they're 20th in rush yards allowed. That appears less than stellar.

 

I feel kinda optimistic... but I can't see us beating both colts AND Rams. I think it's one or the other.

 

our defense is surprisingly better statistically

 

They held the Chiefs to 13 points and 40 yards rushing. Texans to 23 points and combined like 100 yards rushing including Watson. They had one of the worst defenses last year and 5-2. Matt Eberflus has turned that defense around.

 

30 points to chargers and 31 to raiders though lol

 

Chargers was Week 1 and you could argue our defensive stats are skewed with playing two of the worst teams in the league. Our defense is great and so is theirs. I just don't see us being able to run at them with Edmunds or a banged up Conner. I don't want us wasting drives to find out either. But it's all good, I'm sure Tomlin is cooking up a stellar gameplan as we speak

 

Our defense relies on splash plays and I think theirs is better in the sense that they can shut down offenses when they need to.
