Manning is arguably best QB in the history of the league.

This was his first opportunity to prove that he can still play and the whole team was hyped up to help him do it.

We have key injuries on both sides of the ball.

It was an away game against a playoff team.

We were in position for a game winning drive with time left in the fourth.

    TOP = 35+ minutes.

    It's the first game.

Now if this happens week 8 against the Redskins and a rookie QB in our house, I don't know what to tell you.

It's not the loss, it's the way we lost, which is the same way we've been losing for years. Our secondary cannot cover anyone, and it's getting tiring watching it happen over and over again.

Not sure I agree with the injuries argument. At least not for our Offense. DD was not a sure thing proven Guard. Not enough reason to believe Mendenhall could have made a difference in the run game with the lack of run blocking.

No playoff teams have been established yet. For all we know they could end up 7-9...and so could we.

In the same light, there is nothing to say the Redskins won't be good this year and that RGIII won't continue to play well and have a Rookie season similar to Newtons last year. And with a better supporting team around him their Win column could fill up.
Just sayin, there are no gimme's anywhere.

All that said, I did see some things on Offense that give me hope that I wouldn't have had last year.

And the poor showing of the Defense could be improved. I can recall games in years past where it seemed no one could tackle that were followed up with great defensive outings with solid tackling and turn overs. All is not lost, but there are certainly disheartening signs in the way this one went down.

True but also our QB of the secondary was not on the field making last minute calls and adjustments. Mundy is not Clark. Yes Clark would not have made a difference on some of those plays but on others when it looked like our DB's were not set or in the correct spot Clark probably would have had them in the right call.

I think it shows how little depth we have at FS and keep in mind Manning is a heck of a QB. I wonder how Denver would have done had they lost Champ Bailey, Mays, Dumervil and then 2 of their starters on the o-line, not to mention McGahee couldn't play either.

Add in the first game of the year on the road at a tough place to play winning one last night would have been a steal.

I am not saying we will win out but the SB is not won or lost in week 1. As long as they keep improving week to week there is still plenty of time to get #7.

We went against the already legendary Manning, away and in their house, in our very first game with a new offense. We were down our all pro safety, our 1st round RB, a beast of a LB in Harrison, and this years #1 draft pick to our line. Wallace just got in, Hampton's recovering, Brown is young and dropped a TD but getting better, and the absence of Ward, Smith, and Hoke stood out. Ben was getting the ball out faster than I've ever seen but the receivers weren't quite ready for it and unlike the opposition he had ZERO running game to alleviate some of the pressure.

Yet, with all that, we were in it to WIN to the very end.

    We'll get better.

I was pleased with a lot of things but the D against the no huddle has me a bit nervous. If you haven't heard, Baltimore has been practicing heavily on their no huddle and have plans to use it a lot! We will see it tonight against the Bengals and I hope we are ready for it by the time we play them in November. Granted Flacco is not Peyton but McGahee is also not Ray Rice. Come on Steelers get that D tightened up and that pass rush flying. No more 10 yard cushions by the corners please!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, I had low expectations going in. I always want too see us win. I just knew this one wasn't going in our favor. I expect the Steelers to improve against the Jets. We seem to be a much better home team, than road team as of the last few seasons. I don't think the Jets are as good as the Bills made them out to be yesterday.

You need to go back an watch that game without the black and gold glasses. Our offense was abysmal last night. If it wasn't for ben on 3rd and a mile it would have much worse. Ist down passing plays averaged less than 2 yards per attempt, rushing less than 3. They've got a lot of work to do or it's going to be a long season.

You're right about one thing, they do have a lot of work to do but not on the offensive side.

Don't really think I am upset over it at all. I kinda expect it to go the way it did. Anyone foolish to believe that Manning wouldn't be his old self or very close to it wasn't paying attention to the preseason. I expect the offense to have success and to struggle at times. I thought the defense would be suspect which is why I was hoping for some serious TOP to limit Manning's time on the field. I didn't envision the injuries or how successful the Broncos run defense would be but I thought it would be a game that could go either way.

    1. Wrongo. One ring does not make him nearly the best. Great, but hardly the best. We actually added to his messiah-ship last night.

    2. Injuries are part of the game. Every team has injuries. One does have to examine why we seem to have more to key people than other teams. Maybe, just maybe it is the style we play that gives way to injuries. But if you need a good cry and excuse, I guess you can say injuries.

    3. Since when do away games go automatic to the home team? The 49'ers won away, the Eagles won away, the Redskins won away. So what's the problem? Ahh, we cannot win in Denver! That's the ticket. 3-8 is pretty poor and we should just forfeit the games in Denver. I am serious. The team could save a boat load of money and injuries by just forfeiting next time.

    4. Ohh plezzze. Jethro had pick 6 written all over that drive. Just a matter of time, and as usual, he picked the right time.

    5. The ole time of possession commandment. Let's see, Steeler football right? Hold the ball for as long as possible. Settle for a FG, then let the other team drive right down the field. In today's game, with the increased aspect of throwing the ball, TOP is meaningless becasue offensive teams that throw the ball, don't have to worry about 30 minute drives. Theycan score quickly which the Steelers cannot.

So, now, go have a good cry. Excuses, like milk are for babies. The Steelers got their butts kicked every which way and are lucky Denver only got 30 something.

    I agree 100%.

Even though it is early and it will take an entire season to judge, it is fun to note that the offense looked EXACTLY THE SAME as it did under Arians.

Yes...but...the no huddle has historically troubled the Steelers. Carson Palmer used to torture them with it 5 or 6 years ago. Plus the game is evolving more and more toward a wide open passing game. Secondaries not covering anyone is the new norm.
