First off, Dolphins haven't looked bad since Fitz has come in. They could have won their last 2 games but they clearly threw them.

None of the these teams tanking want to have the stench of 0-16 season. So that means they need to win a game. If Dolphins are going to win a game this is the one they want to. They have our 1st round pick. Another Steelers loss is great for them and this one could potentially end our season and put it into a downward spiral. It's a win/win for them.

I hope we are actually preparing and not treating it like another bye week.

I don't quite understand. You said they threw their last two games but somehow they are coming to play on MNF and don't want to have the stench of an 0-16 season.

If that were the case why throw any games?

Or are they trying to go for 1-15 with their only win being against Pit because of our long standing fierce rivalry?

EDIT: I think I see where you are coming from with them wanting to beat us since they have our draft pick.

How about tossing all the nonsense out the window and stating what is obvious. Miami is full of professional athletes. They all have pride. Maybe an organization would think about the ramifications of wins and losses, but players play. They are not dropping passes, missing field goals, or tackling sloppy because they want the organization to have a better pick next season.

The team is a wild animal backed into a corner right now. What is unknown is how they will respond to adversity. Will focus wane if they get down a couple scores and have little motivation to fight back? Will we make enough mistakes to let them stick around late in the game and put the outcome in the hands of the refs or the football gods?

This game really has nothing to do with Miami and everything to do with us. If we play a clean, hard, focused game for 60 minutes, we win walking away. In not, on any given Sunday (or Monday night, as the case may be)...

Let me spike the propositition that the Dolphs will be motivated to beat the Steelers, because they'll get a higher draft pick from the Minka trade.

Yes, it is true that Steelers loss improves the Minka draft pick position,
BUT......, a Dolphins win makes their own first rounder potentially worse.

I don't see how their overall draft position improves if they win and the Steelers lose vs the other way around.

But as SDOT knows the Roger Goddell has already determined the outcome, screwing the Steelers and rewarding the Pats.

Because they suck and they want a high draft pick. Would you want to beat the Skins or Steelers who's draft pick you have? That's easy.

Winning this game will give them #2 overall instead of #1 while improving their Steelers pick. It could also do a lot of damage to the Steelers moving forward. I feel like a rocket scientist interacting with some of you.

Rocket Scientist? Maybe you are one. Since I suspect you're wearing a tin foil nose cone on top of your head.

Edit: BTW, Dr Von Braun. According to the draft value chart, going from #1 overall to #2, costs as much value as going from #8 to #16. Imposing a loss on the Steelers and and losing the first pick for the 2nd,is a bad trade. If anything, Miami is better off tanking Minday than playing hard.

Edit - I was looking at outdated information. They currently have #2 overall. Bengals have tiebreaker, strength of schedule. Win would put them at #4 pick after the week assuming no other 1 win team wins. There's 3 great QBs and only two teams in projected Top 5 picks need a QB. Plus, what a loss here will do the Steelers. Our season is really over if we lose this game.

I'm just wondering if MR can put up some respectable #s against a team that is tanking.... I'm sure Tomlin will have this team ready to play :lolol:

Dr Von Braun, the Bengals and Miami play each other on Dec 22. So that's the tiebreakers.

They aren't tanking. They are coming to win.

There you go. They win this game and ruin the Steelers season. Then completely lay down to the Bengals. Bengals get their 1 win and avoid 0-16. I think the tiebreaker still comes down to strength of schedule.

And they want to bust their ass for the first time this year, to ruin the Steelers season because?

To get the 8th overall instead of the 11th? Because the Steelers will collapse and fall apart after their shocking upset? Won't the Steelers toughen up and get pissed and knock off Indy, Rams and Cle after the upset? Wouldn't the Dolphins be awaking a sleeping giant by winning? I mean that's at least as logical as what you're proposing, Dr Von Braun.

I've already explained why. You think losing to the Dolphins at home on MNF is going to awake a sleeping giant??? :roflmao: If we lose on Monday our season is over. Players are going to start checking out. Short week and have to play the Colts then Rams? Yeah, it's OVER.

Ummm...yes, beating the Steelers makes the draft pick they get from us better but it also makes their first round pick worse, and also makes all their normal picks in the other rounds worse. So they'd be trading improving one first round pick for worsening their own first round pick and all the normal picks in subsequent rounds. Plus, worsening their own first round pick potentially takes them from the first overall to the second or lower. I'd think that loss in value would be the greatest you could get by dropping one spot.

    No it isn't.

The tiebreaker for draft position purposes is strength of schedule. If two teams are tied, let's say 2-14, the team that played the weaker schedule gets the first pick.

It appears the ownership and GM wanted to blow up the Phins in hope of future reward. Future reward (winning) is never guaranteed.

I think the coaches generally coach to win. Coaches are coaching for their jobs and players are playing for their jobs. Those are two reasons why the Phins want to win.
