Cowher had his share of crappy seasons as well. I don't think it's Tomlin as much as poor personnel decisions. We pay big bucks to oft-injured players on the decline while our drafts have left us paper thin with depth. Colbert seems to get a pass from a lot of people.

I love COWHER....but I also really like Mike T. They both had their "isms"

I agree that this team needs a Joey Porter spark....and I think that spark might just be the no huddle....I thought both sides played flat....until Ben went no huddle.

I also still think the Steelers need a playmaker to team with Troy....they have solid, cover and tackle guys...but no ...well Tracy Porter.

    We almost won.

It was the Payton/ Ben show out there tonight. Payton got just a bit more help from his team than Ben did. Denver was healthy and at home.
We are battered and away. Ben gave Manning a run for his money but we lost. It happens.

We'll get em next time when it really counts in Da Burgh!

The point I want to make here is that we can't always blame the coaches for everything wrong with our team.

    Arians should have proved that.

The players have to step up and play with some willpower instead of the ho-hum their playing with right now.

I don't see any fire whatsover from not one person on the entire team except for Dwyer, and even that didn't last very long.

I don't care what anyone says or what any stats say, That's the number one reason we miss Bill. This isn't about that though.

The team has been like this for at least two years now. We're spiking on the turn of a new era since we lost Ward Farrior and Smith.

I think were in the middle of a transition right now but I don't know what to.

Also, it would help if our defense could....you know...do anything effectively.

The standard may be the standard excuse wise but it sure as hell isn't performance wise.

I'll be here week to week though just like everyone else hoping for the best.

Every team has to be able to play with injuries. That's why the standard exists. Obviously I don't think it'll always be this bad. (Though it seems like it)

I don't think we've played up to the standard in quite some time now.

I think that the back-ups who need to be up to the standard are frankly not up to standard. The drop off in talent from the starters to the back-ups is pretty big.

Yeah we basically have NO depth whatsoever. I just think the "building through the draft philosophy" is not working anymore. We atleast need to get some proven talent in here to fill in the gaps until we can develop some guys. Where the crap is Cam Heyward? Can we just go ahead and say bust or what?

We did have our "backs against the wall" in this game when ben threw that pic 6. So having our backs against the wall really didn't help that much.

I was saying more from a "season" standpoint. It's almost like losing motivates us more than winning.

I need to not come here after losses. Hell, even after wins people aren't making much sense.

Losing happens. I'm not saying that there isn't a time to take a look at coaches and see if they are really doing a good job, etc. But part of our issue as Steelers fans is that we expect to always win and we've been fortunate to win a lot. But you don't always win. You don't always make the playoffs. Even when you have good teams stuff happens. We expect a lot from the Steelers, but sometimes we have blinders on.

I think someone mentioned that only reason we made the playoffs was because we had a weak schedule. The thing is you can put a qualifier on nearly any team in the league. They only made the playoffs because they were healthy, they only made the playoffs because they have so and so at quarterback. They only made the playoffs because their division is weak. That's how it works. It is pretty rare that a team only loses 1 or 2 games during a season, and those teams always seem to end up losing in the playoffs anyway.

The NFL today is nearly a crapshoot. Don't get me wrong, there are great teams and bad teams. But really you just keep fighting and try to win enough games to make the playoffs and hope you get hot and are healthy at the end.

Peyton has pretty much always had our D's number (and it's always made me nuts). That first touchdown drive for them was the perfect case. 12 plays for over 80 yards, all no huddle. Our D line can't hack that kind of continuous go time. Combine that with pretty consistently bad coverage on long plays and he'll run over us time and again, no matter who he's playing for or the injuries he's had. That's why he's Peyton Manning.

It might be our draft. When was the last player that was an outstanding draft pick? I mean someone that came in day one and played above the standard? Pouncey on offensive. Brown and Wallace.

But defensively, Polamalu? that's been 10years ago. Is our defensive scheme too hard to learn? I guess I could say Woodley. But the most important part of our defense is NT and outside linebacker. If we don't have them the defense is nonexistence. Worlds, Carter, Slyvester have not lived up to the billing.

Including me. Colbert does a great job and we are extremely lucky to have him. If you don't spend money in free agency then you have to draft and Colbert has a pretty good record of drafting good to great players. Shall I name them?

Once fans realize that most of the issues boil down to player execution they will stop pointing the finger at the coaches. Nah, it's so much easier and better to have a coaching carousel every other season.

If Tomlin's job is in jeopardy after one game or a few losses then some fans are lost in the sauce. There is no hope for fans that believe Tomlin's act is wearing thin because those fans will never "get it". This team ain't going to make the playoffs or win the SB every season. Disappointment and emotions sometimes clouds fan's judgement.

I actually agree with this - our defensive scheme didnt work in 2010, 2011, and, now, looks the same in 2012 (after only one game I know but from preseason and last night' s game, this is my observation).

I agree, but I'm not sure Tomlin will do that. He seems like the status quo kind of guy. He didn't even replace BA, he had to be overruled by the Rooney's. Tomlin seems unwilling to make those tough decisions that a head coach needs to make. Love him or hate him, Belichek would cut his own mother if it would help his football team. That's what is needed from a head coach. Put Lebeau on notice that he needs to change his approach, because it hasn't worked for years, including last year with our very highly overrated defence.
