Has Pump faking in the NFL become the Bunt of MLB?

Coaching shouldn't be so difficult. Ben used to be one of the best but look around and notice nobody does it anymore. Just like moving a runner over in baseball. A lost art for stats.

This is an interesting question. I wonder if the speed at which things happen on the field these days has anything to do with it? I will have to give this more thought.

Maybe QBs have smaller hands these days and can't master it. After all, his name is, you know, Big Ben for a reason.

My first take would be that there was a time a few years back when pundits went on and on about how quickly Brady got rid of the ball, and how this was key to his success.

There was a definite shift in our offense over the years away from slow developing plays to quicker releases. Partly this was due to having AB et al being so good at slant routes as well. But I think league-wide, it was the philosophy of quick release being more effective than looking off a defense.

Good OP, though, I hadn’t really thought about it. Now I want to find that play from years back against the Bengals when Ben pump faked about 14 times before throwing a TD....

Maybe there is no reason to pump fake since these receivers are running wide open on every play...............
