I was 7 years old when the Beatles first appeared on the "Ed Sullivan show" and it was what everyone in school was talking about. The country was still in shock from the JFK assassination less than 90 days before the Beatles arrived in America. The Beatles arrival got everyone's mind off of the tragedy and brought some fun and excitement into a grieving country.

For me, anything but rap and disco.

Rock, big band, blues, country, classical, ....... I'm fine.

That’s what I listened to back in the day. Still like to listen to old school sometimes. Really don’t like all the new mumble rap nonsense. Huge fan of the G.O.A.T of rap, the Rap God himself. “ Hi my name is...”:smiley1: . I don’t care if you don’t classify his stuff as music but if you don’t think it’s a talent, you don’t know what your listening to. He’s the best to ever have done it and it’s not even close and I go back to the guys on your list and further.

    PS : You forgot Rakim;)

I cannot stand Boy Bands. I think they're a disgrace. All of them.

But I also understand that a lot of people like them. I just turn the volume down or change the channel. Easy as.

Dee Snider has been ranting a bit lately how no hard rock / heavy metal band has ever been asked to play the Superbowl despite how the NFL blasts many of those songs during their games in the stadiums. He's NOT complaining about who has played. Just miffed that someone like, say, AC/DC has never been asked.

I think Dee makes a stronger case.

Personally I think halftime shows peaked with frisbee catching dogs. I just don't see why anyone would be bothered by a halftime show involving rap. It's just as legit as having a country or rock halftime show.

It’s urban music and the league is made up of mostly rap fans and supporters. You can actually watch NASCAR or the rodeo and watch all the country you want to. You notice no one ever complains about Hank Jr or Carrie Underwood getting the Sunday and Monday opening acts? Try to evolve and understand everyone has different tastes and all fans should get a chance to hear the entertainer they want.

I am a rap fan and I agree with you and Dee. There is nothing wrong with mixing things up. I consider VA tech’s enter the sandman opening the best in college football.

Disagree. There's many better Metallica songs for a team to open with. Blackened, Battery, Damage Inc, For Whom the Bell Tolls, Disposable Heroes... all better songs and more intense than overplayed Sandman.

I'm with you on all your music genre's except for the rap and hip hop. So that makes me (and most likely Iowa Jim) even weirder. Have to say though, I had a thing for Shakira when she first arrived on the US music scene but then as with most flames, I lost interest. Always have Willie's Roadhouse or Bluegrass Junction on Sirius/XM radio in my truck. Fan of Jim Ladd's Deep Tracks show too.

I do remember, but then the War of 1812 broke out and took everyone's minds off football for a while. ;)

Rap, believe it or not the big wigs pushed this as part of the dumbing down of America.

    They've succeeded.

Speaking of Aerosmith, they played at the SB.
