Hello fellow brothers and sisters of TheSteelersFans!! AskQuestionsLater here with a topic that seems to have been a common theme the past couple of years for the team. Now, before I begin with today's topic, let us go back a bit on this recent trading activity the Steelers have been.

Dating back to the trade of Martavis Bryant to eventually acquire Mason Rudolph in the 2018 NFL Draft, Pittsburgh has been quietly active in the trading business. However, since then, Pittsburgh has gotten more and more audible, Vance McDonald, Ryan Switzer and J.J. Wilcox to name a few. Yes, these do not scream big name trades but the volume of trades is something that I personally have not ever seen the Steelers take part in; entertaining the idea no less.

Fast forward to 2019 and Pittsburgh has upped the ante in terms of their trading frenzy. To begin, they got rid of "Mr. Big Chest" to Oakland for a third and a fifth; his new name to yours truly forever being "Mr. Third and Fifth"; acquired from BehindTheSteelCurtain Writer Lance Willams. Next up, Pittsburgh trades up to acquire Devin Bush Jr. Giving away their First, Second and a 2020 Third Round pick to Denver, Pittsburgh had not traded up to acquire a defensive player since 2003 when they selected Troy Polamalu. However, Pittsburgh was not done there for this was just approaching the height of the trading craze.

On September 16th, 2019, Pittsburgh had done something that they had never done since the AFL-NFL Merger and as recent as 1967. Pittsburgh dealt away their First Round pick. In addition, they also said goodbye to a Fifth Round pick in 2020 and a Sixth in 2021. Their prize?! Free Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick; widely regarded as the top Free Safety in his class from the 2018 class.

Pittsburgh was not done there though either. Given Vance McDonald and Xaiver Grimble's injuries, the team had to give Mason his security blanket. To that end, familiairty is often the safe bet. That said, Pittsburgh dealt away their fifth round pick received from Jacksonville to acquire Tight End Nick Vannett; a Tight End whom both Pittsburgh had interest in back in 2016 in addition to Mason working with him this offseason.

Now, as we sit here today, time for the main question at hand. Now, Pittsburgh currently has six picks at present. Again, since the AFL-NFL Merger, Pittsburgh has never entered the NFL Draft with fewer than six. That said, I would imagine Kevin Colbert is not done dealing just yet. Some players have contracts which are set to expire after this season.

    As such, which players are in line to trade?! I have narrowed this list down to three specific players. Here they are;

Javon Hargrave: He has a contract situation in which he has not been extended. It seems clear that Pittsburgh is moving on. Among the three listed, I believe Javon yields the highest value. Granted, this will be team dependant but to me, he is worth a Fourth Round pick.

Bud Dupree: Ugh... where do I even begin. I personally had stratospheric hopes for him. A letdown yes but a bust he is not (the man below says hello). That said, he does have a resume of 21 sacks... although he has never had more than six in a season. Add his injury history and his trade composition does not appear to be worth much. For me?! Best bet is a fourth but fifth or even sixth otherwise.

Artie Burns: I am not going to analyze him. I am just not. I had hoped he would prove others wrong but failed to do so. I will say this, he does have starter experience and is very young at 24. I will be shocked if he warrants a fifth. Sixth or even seventh for me personally is this man's value.

In short fellow brothers and sisters?! Kevin Colbert has until October 29th to decide which players stays and which ones leave. These moves will not only affect the 2019 Steelers. They will also serve as ammunition come the 2020 Draft. 30 Days to decide Mr. Colbert...

.... Time to Wheel 'n' Deal!!! :rawk:

Been a while since my last Thread everyone! My apologizes for the wait. My phone has been in the repair shop three times this year and it is likely to head back again. Either way, I was long overdue a thread of my thoughts and feelings to share with you all! :)

Once again and, as always, thank you for reading!! I hope you learn something and, most importantly, I hoped you enjoyed!! Until next time fellow brothers and sisters, take care and have a nice day!! :)

    Go Steelers!! :herewego:

Other: Moncrief, Switzer, a te. (If they make a move.)

I think they keep the defense intact & Burns has no trade value.

The problem is that all of them have more value as FAs than as trade bait. That is, they may well get picked up by teams once cut, but I can’t see anyone shifting players or picks for them.

Even Hargrave, given his contract situation.

Good OP, though, AQL. Hope your phone gets sorted.

Yep, teams will just wait for on all these guys. There will be no reason to give up anything for players they know are going to be released. I don't think there will be much more dealing this season. I'd rather them make do with what they have rather than continuing to acquire trash heap players like Barron and others.

I honestly think that trades of any makeup are a waste of time as long as we have the three stooges, Tomlin, Butler, and Fichtner.

Since I firmly believe that Rooney will never fire Tomlin, maybe he will step up and have a meeting with Colbert and Tomlin and kindly advise him to improve the coaching staff, coach to the talent he has, and concentrate on fundamental football

Hargrave has trade value but I don't agree that they are definitely going to move on. I think they will try to sign him, question is, Hargrave may want to test the market as he is better suited for 4-3 and a very good player.

I'd rather they keep him, part ways with Tomlin and Butler and get coaches in here that won't waste this guys talent.

Of the players you listed, I think Javon Hargrave would be the most likely to be traded. I have always been a Hargrave defender but he has not played well so far this season, and he has not progressed into the player I thought he would be. At this point in his career I think he is what he is, and that is a low to mid level starter. I think there is some trade value there for him, and I agree that a 4th rounder would seem like likely compensation.

I think Bud could be trade bait as well. I think we could potentially get a 3rd for Bud. I think he has a better reputation around the league than he does among Steelers fans. There is a team out there that will love his size and speed and think they can "fix" him.

I doubt Artie Burns has any trade value at all at this point. If he does we would be fortunate to get a 6th round pick for him.

How did you come to that conclusion? The guy had 6.5 sacks last season getting only 43 percent of the snaps.

Through 3 games this season, hasn't recorded a sack yet but has 6 hurries and 1 hit. He collapses the pocket like deck of cards.

Letting him go is a big mistake.

Its not always about pressure and sacks. Hes getting pushed around a bit this season, and he seems to me to be a liability in the run game.

The linebacker play we are getting behind him isn't helping. I will give him that.

It’s scheming mixed in with linebackers who get bullied. Gravedigger is definitely not the problem...

bush+barron are small and they get thrown around. Gone are the days when we had big snack and porter or harrison waiting.

I don't think that there is much on the table there to draw interest from other GM's.

Keep in mind everyone, GMs always have a different value on players. It has never been about just acquiring that player for their team because of depth. It is more about how much can that player assist in both the present and the future.

At the end of the day fellow brothers and sisters, it is all about finding the right trading partner. Some teams will be interested while others will not. For a better reference, see the aforementioned Nick Vannett from this past week.

The guy is a 1 gapping DT being played largely out of position as a 2 gapping nose tackle in our base defense. He’d be a very solid starter for a team with the right scheme fit.

I see no real value trade value in any of the players you listed. All 3 are in the last year of their contracts, none have displayed exceptional abilities that would warrant a franchise tag. If a team were desperate to fill a hole due to injuries, then possibly, yet not one of these 3 is going to step in and be a huge difference makes in a play off push.

Of the guys listed only Hargrave has trade value. What are you giving me to take Bud and his $9mil cap hit off your hands? Why should I give you a sack of potatoes for Artie, when there are perfectly bad free agent CBs available?

No team is giving up a 3rd for Bud, he's not that good, and he will be a free agent in 2020.

Too early on Edmunds. Needs to finish out this season to draw any conclusions. Should more of the same remain, he will be a disappointment.

I’m perplexed by the whole moving on from Hargrave thing... who are we replacing him with?

Definitely not Tyson Alualu or Big Dan.

I always felt we could do better than Hargrave, as good as he is, but it is not an easy position to fill, and a rookie can’t come in and do it day 1.
